Big Wig, No Wig or Comb Over. Wigsplitter is an oatmeal stout brewed with freshly ground espresso. It's for those of us who like a little beer with their coffee or a little bit of coffee with their beer

An impressive kind of stout. The espresso coffee flavors help it out greatly, especially when paired with chocolate.

I would definitely score this World-Class. Color is dark opaque as expected. Poured into stout glass. Medium head, dissipates by the second pull. Light aroma of coffee. Thin mouthfeel leaving palate clear. Taste is phenomenal. Oatmeal-coffee stout quintessential taste.

12 oz. bottle pours a clear dark brown which ends up opague in the glass, under a creamy, lasting tan head with great lacing. Smell is moslty coffee. Taste is bitter, but more coffee bitter than hops bitter. Aroma has coffee, roasted malts, some oatmeal and grains, with a touch of hops in the finish. The aftertaste is sweet and malty. Body is full with a smooth mouthfeel. One of the best coffee or oatmeal stouts out there.

12 oz bottle, dated 08/07/24 I think (on glass so hard to read)
Pours black with khaki colored head, eith decent head retention. Pleasant coffee and cream aroma. Similar taste - roasty malt balanced by milk chocolate flavor. Smooth feel.

Pours a deep dark brown color with honey edges and two fingers of beige head. The nose is toasty with distinct coffee notes. The flavor profile has molasses upfront with a coffee finish. The mouthfeel is slightly sticky and the body is somewhat thin.

10/14/24 Poured from a 12 oz bottle from The Washington Beer Store.
Aroma is bright, peppery with breakfast coffee. Maybe vanilla? Earthy.
Bright breakfast coffee with beer.... And enough malt sweetness to make this a very enjoyable stout! Peppery and earthy.

Black color. Big, beige head. Coffee and roast malt dominate the aroma. Tastes almost like cold-brew coffee. Strong roasted bitterness.A good one for coffee lovers.

There is a date code that appears to either be etched on the low shoulder of the bottle: "BOTTLED 03-07-24 5411"
Appearance: It has a black body and a medium-sized thick light tan head with dense bubbles and a few sparse larger ones. It has good head retention and it leaves some sheets and strings of small bubbles on the glass.
Aroma: It has a spicy and earthy pepper scent that often comes with coffee, which is also a character that comes through under the more peppery character. It has a light bit of a floral character that creeps in as well.
Taste: Up front there is an earthy coffee character with just a touch of pepper. I migrates to a light touch of burnt wood with a bit more of that floral flavor giving it a bit of an Irish Spring character under the coffee.
Mouthfeel: It feels between the upper edge of light-bodied and the lower edge of medium-bodied. There is a mellow bitterness but it finishes mostly clean as the majority of the flavor and bitterness wash away from the palate very quickly.
Overall: The label states that this is a "COFFEE STOUT" and the text on the label says an "OATMEAL STOUT BREWED WITH FRESHLY GROUND ESPRESSO." The coffee feels pretty mellow and it is a bit more on the peppery side of things. It's an alright coffee stout but there is a floral character to the beer that muddies it a bit and the flavors from the base oatmeal stout seem to upstage the coffee a bit too much. I probably wouldn't buy it again because there are better coffee beers on the market and better beers from 3 Floyds as well.

I was stunned first by the solid blackness, second by the powerful coffee aroma and taste. Another of those beers that would almost make me a coffee drinker!
