2016 in 2020. Pours black, minimal head and no retention. Odd nose, soy sauce, some wine. Taste very complex, cocoa, umami, marshmallow, boozy. Heavy body, light carbonation.

2016 vintage (released spring 2016); drank 12/14/16 @ Harvest Hop Haus.
Midnight black appearance.
Minimal khaki head; no lace.
Marshmallow, gewurztraminer wine & milk chocolate notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Gewurztraminer wine & honey flavors up front; strong booze heat & milk chocolate notes on the finish.
Cloying & boozy; this beer was an unpleasant mess. Misfire!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large dark brown foamy head. Aroma of Sauterne with its typical sweet grapes notes is quite dominant with some light molasses and black chocolate notes also perceptible. Taste is a mix of Sauterne notes with some huge amount of residual sugar with some very light molasses and black chocolate notes. Body is full with syrupy notes and good carbonation with some alcohol showing. Very enjoyable and surprised the Sauterne notes works as well with this huge stout.

Black in color. No head.
Lots of sweetness. Reminds me more of port than beer. Molasses, dark fruits, toffee, sweet cherries, and oak. Tons of port/wine flavors. Caramel and vanilla. Raisins.
Full bodied. Sweet and syrupy.
This beer is really awesome if you are looking for a dessert stout. Very impressed with one.

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I have an enormous sweet tooth. Like, I once ate a half dozen Krispy Kremes for lunch, sober, and I thought that was just dandy.
Anyway, this beer tastes and smells kind of like you would expect a Dark Lord aged in Sauternes barrels to taste and smell - like someone poured a bottle of Sauternes into a bottle of Dark Lord. Now, Dark Lord is already on the sweet side for beers, and Sauternes is basically sweet, concentrated dessert wine, so the combination is tooth-achingly sweet. If that doesn't sound appealing to you, then you may not like this beer. I absolutely loved it. It was 2 weeks before I stopped waking up in the middle of the night craving it. But it's not for everyone.
