Our second collaboration with the mighty Skeletonwitch is a kettle-soured IPA brewed with loads of Southern Hemisphere hops. This tart, refreshing ale with lingering notes of tropical fruit, raspberry and currants celebrates the "individual" in all of us.

Sour, lactose and hoppy beer...
I'm a fan but I don't have much to say here.
Over all it's a good combo.

Wow, this one's nice. Slightly hazy orange, left a bit of sediment behind in the glass... smells of lemon, orange, and ruby red grapefruit. Mouthfeel is dry but slightly more full than expected due to the lactose. Tastes of a tart, under ripe, ruby red grapefruit. Very nice.

First sour IPA I’ve had that did a great job of balancing the two categories in a harmonious and tasty way. The lactose is clearly helping with the sweet-sour-hoppy balance. Beautiful golden, mostly clear body. Lots of citrus and floral notes on the nose and tongue, with a slight twinge of pucker and pith. Really nice and unique beer.

With a fascination with the spectrum of sour but their refinement in the realm of hops, Three Floyds employs the help of Skeletonwitch to solidify a beer that's something old, but something new too. Their "land down under" hopping rates piled high on a kettle soured ale gives this Sour IPA a unique twist.
And that twist starts with alight goldenrod pour that's cast in a fine mesh haze. As its froth crown rises, so do the fruity, tropical, berry-like scents that wrap around a sharp and citrusy scent. As tantalizing as its perfume is, the taste leads off with a light pastry, sweeter breadiness that skirts right under the sourness.
As Temple of the Sun strikes the middle palate, the sweetness rapidly dissolves and the full hop flavor of passionfruit, kiwi, under ripened mango and pineapple provide a succulent taste, the cidery, winey and citrusy taste of its fermentae steers the taste toward a culmination of pink grapefruit. As a taste of orange peel and blueberry tread on the late palate, so does a bitterness of green tea, fresh cut grass, verbena, gin, cedar and verbena.
Medium bodied for a sour ale but certainly light for IPA, a hints of its pastry underpinnings remain to frame a mild malty balance with a sourdough texture to sooth the sourness that strips the thirst from the mouth with ease. Highly refreshing, crisp and clean, the palate can't get away from those resemblances to pink grapefruit juices for a minute.
