Notes: Our latest barrel-aged imperial stout hails from a battle-filled planet from the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Weighing in at a hefty 15.6% ABV, Cocomungo was aged with toasted coconut and maple syrup after spending a year in Willett bourbon barrels. Expect layered flavors of maple syrup, toasted coconut and rich chocolate backed by whiskey and oak notes from the barrel-aging process.

12 ounce bottle, no dating I noticed on it. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around for a bit. Small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, coconut, bourbon, dark chocolate, caramel and some roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, with the addition of some molasses, oak, and dark bready flavors. Wish the coconut was stronger in this brew but that's a very minor complaint. All the flavors mesh well with each other, with no one flavor overpowering the others. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's rich and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good overall imperial stout, certainly worth trying if you get the chance!

10 oz draft pour in a snifter glass at Frisco Taphouse in Crofton. Pours an opaque near-black with a sexy tan head. Aroma and flavor feature toasted coconut, semisweet chocolate, caramel, bourbon, port wine, vanilla, and sweet maple. Mouthfeel is rich and sumptuous, and hides the abv amazingly well. A big, complex, focused, well-constructed beer. Great stuff.

There is a date code etched into the shoulder of the bottle which might not be easy to see when it is cold. The lettering is large and it states: "BOTTLED 2023"

Appearance: It is a black beer that is completely opaque. There is a short, fizzy, dark khaki head which pops and bubbles almost like soda before it rapidly disappears. No head retention or lacing.

Aroma: There is an alcohol aroma and a light bit of a wet oak scent. There isn't much aroma overall but the oak scent is easy to pick out.

Taste: Up front there are strong notes of coconut, vanilla, and chocolate. Flavors slam the palate as soon as the beer touches the tip of the tongue. Near the center of the tongue there is a strong caramel flavor with notes of Werther's Original candy, chocolate liqueur, some coffee, and dark chocolate. It tastes a bit like a black russian mixed drink. The flavors stay consistent to the back of the palate, but there are a bit more sweeter flavors that linger in the aftertaste. It has a bit of a coconut milk, oat milk, chocolate, and vanilla flavor in the aftertaste. It definitely has a lot of flavor. There is an alcohol flavor to the beer at all times but it comes across more as a liqueur which is hidden under the flavors of the beer rather than something that stands out.

Mouthfeel: It is full bodied and smooth. The label states that this is "ALC 15.6% BY VOL" and it is definitely present, but it is very easy to drink.

Overall: The beer looked pretty average and it didn't have much to offer in the way of an aroma. At first it seemed like this might turn out to be a disappointment. Then the beer hit the palate and everything changed. It has tons of flavor and it delivered something that was worth drinking. The label simply states that this is a "BARREL AGED COCONUT STOUT." There was some wet oak aroma to the beer and it did have a lot of vanilla flavor which could be attributed to the wood as well. It had a lot of wonderful coconut flavor which really stood out and made this beer enjoyable to drink.

There malts used in this beer provided a lot of caramel, toffee, chocolate, and coffee flavors as well. It is important to recognize that this is more than just a beer made with flavoring ingredients; the base beer here is really good. I really enjoyed this beer. I would drink it again and I would recommend buying it.

12oz bottle. Etched on bottle neck is 'BOTTLED 2023'.
Black colored body, with a very thin mahogany brown back lit edge. Light brown head, which disappears within a couple of minutes. No lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts soaked in bourbon barrels, and the light touch of coconut fibers.
Taste is sweet and boozy. Dark roasted malts bring forth the bourbon barrel, and coconut brings up the rear. The maple syrup sweetness hits a peak mid profile. The aftertaste is a swirl of bourbon barrel, roasted malts, the sweetness of maple syrup and the coconut flakes.
Thicker mouth feel. A little sticky. Certainly expresses the booze character but without mouth burn, and without a lot of nasal vapors. It's a given that this brew warms the belly. Supportive carbonation.
Very natural coconut flake flavor. Excellent balance of the sweet and boozy. Inviting to drink a session second until the memory reminds one of the high ABV%.

Pours deep black. Aroma is very subtle, mostly chocolate with a slight hint of coconut. Taste is much better & more complex. Chocolate, bourbon, roadtiness and a bit of coconut. Sincebi don't like coconut, I'm glad it's subtle. Medium feel. Great stout.

Thanks to the generous & incomparable DIM for this 12 oz. bottle (as well as three of its brothers). A celebratory beer. The Twins won their opener today!

Hard black with a mocha, quick-collapsing head. The nose brings the advertised coconut, barrel, & a double-shot of booze.

Cocomungo is a beast. Some big beers you sip & don’t realize they’re killing you until you fall up the stairs. Not this – it announces itself with authority. Booze blinks bright & is welded tight to a big hit of bitter chocolate, solid hit of whiskey that I can feel going down. Mid-palate is a shot of sweetness, but not identifiable as maple, but good, with a distant fire of coconut. Heavy finish. I could take two of these.

Wish 3Floyds would continue to pump out these excellent barrel aged beers in the smaller format AND send them to MN. Thanksbye.

It's a spring break beer. Poured out dark brown into a skull decorated glass. Not sure who cocomungo is but i take it that's him on the bottle. Looks like some angry smurfs with machine guns. Minimal head. I'm not sure how this is going to go down because i just had Mexican and my stomach is churning from too many jalapenos. Barely any scent. LIke literally low marks on the smell department because i can barely read anything out of the glass. But the taste is like wow a punch of coconut! This is like an Almond Joy. Also some vanilla, and a little bit of coffee and chocolate bitterness to balance it out. It's a little on the sweet side so it's a slow sipper. This is probably the only beer I've had that advertises itself as coconut that actually tastes like coconut. It must be really hard to get right with that particular adjunct because every other coconut beer I've had just falls short. But i must say 3 floyds delivers. It goes down silky smooth, light and slippery mouthfeel. And pile on top of that clocking in at over 15% well you know this is a winner in my book. Glad i tried it and i feel my stomach starting to even out. I think i can tolerate it. Hell, i'll force myself to tolerate it. It's worth it.

Look is quite gelatinous

Smell is naseautingly and sickening. Smells grossly of marichino cherry juice and coconut.

Taste is too fucking sweet to analyze. Absolutely disgusting suger-syrup.

Feel who cares

Overall drain pour.

The coconut on this one is still very subtle but you do find it, and by that alone I think this is much better than toasted coconut Baptist, they're both pretty complete beers but I definitely praise this one for the coconut still showing up.

I wanted a nice beer before bed, so after drain pouring a Dismembers Only, lets pray this gets it right.

Nose - well dang, this i a roasted pastry on the nose. Forget stout, forget the coconut, it's just a chocolate pastry. It's got that undercooked bready dough thing going on in the best dang way possible. Oh man...ok, this is different.

Taste - ok first off - man 15% is hitting hard here. Ok, well this is a dessert for sure. Roasted, nutty, chocolaty, with just the right amount of fruity finish.

Oh we've got a nice bottle here. I giggle at the use of willet barrels a bit, how that's become something to market is beyond me. This is so viscous and oily, almost creamy in the mouth to extremes. If you'd told me they poured maple syrup in this, i'd believe it. The toasted or roasted elements are here in full force while the bourbon is working well with adding rich caramel to the chocolate.

This is what a stout should be and this is how to use additives to create a new flavor without ruining a beer.

So happy 3 Floyd's is releasing barrel aged four packs. This one is killer! Look is dark as a moonless night. Scent of glorious coconut, chocolate & bourbon.Taste is perfect, a perfectly balanced coconut delight but not cloying. WOW! Great 10w40 viscosity, sticky. Overall, one of the best barrel aged coconut adjunct beers I've ever had. Another amazing offering from a legendary Midwest brewery! Touche!

2022 Vintage
Poured into a Tulip

Appearance - deep mahogany body with the faintest of tan head

Smell - Coconut, dark chocolate, maple, whiskey

Taste - Dark chocolate, coconut, maple, toffee, whiskey

Mouthfeel - Medium plus bodied, medium carbonation, sweetness upfront from the chocolate/coconut/maple flavors, whiskey barrel on the back end. At the ABV, the booze is hidden well.

Overall - Pretty good barrel aged imperial stout, the coconut flavor held up over this past year+ and the barrel characteristics are present yet not dominant. Good harmony of flavor. Worth a shot.

Long day today so I opened my last bottle of this stout. I bought these in TN last spring and the bottle is etched bottled 2022 so I’m guessing this is 10 months or so in the bottle. Poured. Into a 19oz snifter type glass. Pitch black, my iPhone flashlight can’t shine through this beer. Thick but not like sludge. No carbonation. Coconut is at a nice level. Very mild sweetness , I guess this is the maple that had really faded, the first bottle I had was very maple forward. Barrel is mild but shows up. I wish there was a bit more barrel. For a high ABV this is not drinking like it at all. Going down way too fast and easy. Really enjoying this beer and would buy another 4 pack tomorrow if it was on a shelf.

Look - black and thick with a great than head and nice rimming and lacing
Smell - first thing I smell is the maple syrup followed by chocolate whisky then coconut in the rear
Taste - Boozy chocolate whisky slighy maple and even more slight coconut. Nice blend though
Feel - medium full body with a slight crisp bite of carbonation which is different than most BA stouts. Slight syrupy and could have used more body.
Overall - pretty nice blended ba stout and very boozy
