This beer definitely fits the profile the brewer has. It is a light (as in not filling) brew, but still brings a punch of smoke. It seems to hide for a second on the palate, especially when compared to the nose. It is dry and actually seems pretty bitter, but mostly from the smoke. I feel if you know this brewery, you will recognize it in this beer. Your enjoyment may be tied to whether you enjoy the smoke in a Rauchbier without the deeper malt notes of many of their other offerings. I feel there is nothing more or less than an expected solid offering here.

Finally scored a 4 pack of this in cans. Hallelujah.

Pours goldenrod yellow. Great clarity. Full 1" of small bubble white head. Good retention. Aroma hits the light smoked malt angle. Very nice, very nuanced alongside what is still a bright grain smell.

Taste brings the pilsner life to that of a lightly smoked rauch like sensation. Nice high level of carbonation in the mouthfeel that works very well for such a style of beer. You don't want that smoke lingering heavy. Plenty of grain comes across bright and fresh. You know, I had a bit of a tummy ache at the start of Wrestlemania, so I downshifted to this beer (i.e. lower abv) and damned if I didn't feel substantially better after finishing it (and then went on to crush multiple tequila barrel beers).

Its a beer packing plenty of flavor, but remains refreshing. I have to hold one for peak summertime, but these are likely good anytime, much like a country music Jesus.

Nearly clear golden yellow, 1" brief soapy head, brief retention and spotty lacing. Nose is light smoke and light barley, mildly smoky sweetness, leather. Taste is very light, a touch of grain, barley, and smokiness. Feel is light, crisp, refreshing, with somewhat creamy carbonation that gives it a touch of weight. Very lightly flavored but pleasant and very crushable.

Pours a big frothy head, aroma is more Nobel hopping than smoke, surprising body for its weight, crackery, sourdough bread. Punches WAY above its weight.

500 ml bottle purchased at Vessel Liquor in Victoria, B.C. - always willing to try new offerings from this historic Bamburg brewery.
Pours a bright clear yellow golden with a towering three plus fingers of foamy white head and a creamy snow cap - laces nicely.
Aroma is delightfully sweetly smoky, wheat malt with some floral undertones.
Sweet smoky wheat malt on the palate, some lemony notes and a leafy slightly herbal backend bitterness.
Crisp light mouthfeel without any suggestion of being thin - brisk carbonation with a satisfying smoky bittersweet finishing snap and a treat at 2.9%!

One of the best smoked beers I have had, so drinkable and finally tuned. Much flavour at 2.9 percent is amazing. Good to the last drop. Thanks Phil for sending.

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color ale with a really large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Stroma of smoked malt notes with light wheat notes. Taste is also a mix of lightly sweet wheat malt notes with some smoked notes. Body is light with some oily notes and good carbonation. Excellent smoked wheat ale and very easy to drink with plenty of character.

Had on tap. Partially cloudy golden body with a white head, plenty of crowned lacing. Aromas of the wonderful smoke with wheat, campfire wood, banana, cracker, mineral water, and minor tones of old earth and meat. Taste also has great smoke, wheat, cracker, and campfire tones, the banana, lemon and a hint of hops now support. Feel is light and nuanced, smoke is dialed in as a worthy rival of the wheat that together shape the body. Absolutely fantastic

L: very nice gold, good white head
S: pears, banana, but a bit dusty
T: very clearly a Schlenkerla, but gently smoked, not like licking a log. Very suble.
F: excellent carbonation and mouth feel

Executed with the typical Schlenkerla quality, but a much more laid back horse in the stable.

Grods are such an interesting, crushable niche beer. This is no exception. Transparent gold with racing carbonation and a lingering head. Plenty of smoke flavor without being overpowering. Lager like mouthfeel. Highly recommended if you can find it.

1pt can served in a Wehienstephaner Rastel 0.5L glass. Stamp on bottom of can: "B United PR #02148". No idea what that means, but hopefully it's been canned recently. I only just saw it at a local place for sale.

Appearance: Clear golden yellow, with just the tiniest hint of haze. Lots of bubbles coming up through the glass. Sudsy white head with persistent strands and islands of lacing noted.

Smell: Light pleasant oak wood aroma, along with a little bit of some herbal hops and a light floral note.

Taste: A little bit of smokiness up front, then some wheat and a cracker-like malt. Finish is lightly bitter with a little accent of smoke.

Mouthfeel: Thin, light. Carbonation is there, just enough to gently scrub the tongue. A little bit sticky and astringent, but not in a bad way.

Overall / Drinkability: Interesting and very easy drinking. This beer really calls out for some sort of food to go with it; something hearty and roasted. Maybe with food I'd want another, but by itself, one is enough. Well crafted and balanced.
