a real gem here, and frankly easily the best beer i have had from pikes peak. i loved every bit of it. it was brewed for international womens brew day, something i dont know much about, but its a real success. a sour red ipa, soured seemingly in the kettle berliner fashion, its neat how the acidity works so well. pale brick red in color, nice off white frothy head on top an inch high with spiderweb lacing as the beer disappears. it smells hoppy as heck, maybe some centennial or something northwest and bold, but also with a more tropical hint to it as well, a fun combination that tastes as unique as it smells. the hops are only mildly bitter, but very oily and pungent, fruit drink comes to mind, and my mouth waters for this all over again as i write about it. the malts arent sweet like they are in their red ipa, and in fact seem very light in this sour beer. the sour side is tart and acidic while not getting any where near the caustic level of a flanders red type, just an awesome combination of flavors going on, very dynamic, and with its explosive carbonation, feels just right. not sure it falls neatly into any category in terms of style, and i like that a lot. i know this was a one off, but they should think about adding it to their regular lineup if they want to get heady beer geeks into their stuff. this is the way to their heart, thats for sure, i loved this!
