Old Pal is a blend of stainless-aged and rye whiskey barrel-aged mixed fermentation farmhouse ales brewed with rye, refermented with grape and lemon juice, and aged on lemon peel. Inspired by the cocktail of the same name, we first blend a base of Old 51 and Older 51 which are our farmhouse ales that are brewed with 51% rye malt. We then incorporate a portion of Magenta which contributes the grape and spice character similar to vermouth. The entire blend was then aged on lemon peel with a dose of lemon juice for added acidity before being naturally conditioned in kegs and bottles. Burnt orange in color with notes of lemon pith, fortified wine, subtle oak, and spice with bright acidity and dry finish.

Bottled on 7/2/20
Appearance- Orange like the color of apricot skin, 1 inch of head that fades after 30 seconds.
Aroma- hay, briney, must, tangerine
Flavor- Peach, lemon, citrus pith. I would consider this lightly sour. Possibly 4 out of a 10.
Mouthfeel- medium to full body. I suspect this might be coming from the rye. Light to medium carbonation.
Overall- This is a well put together farmhouse beer. Very enjoyable drinking experience.

Bottle from Blending and Bottling in Portland. Pours an almost clear deep amber with a finger of creamy off white head and nice lacing, smell is funky grassy apple cider, apple sauce, apple skins, hints of white grape must, rye spice, and light lemon zest, taste is warm golden cider, funky sour grape skin/white wine, caramelized lemon peel, finishes with some rye spice that lingers, feel is medium bodied, soft carbonation, decently acidic, finishes dry. A cider/wine forward cocktail treat, a great blend!
