Brewed in collaboration with HaandBryggeriet, bottle (and website) says it is a “mixed fermentation farmhouse ale fermented and aged in red wine barrels.” Seems like a Flanders Oud Bruin style to me, though I don’t know the style well. Anyway…picked a single bottle up in Ballard this summer, and am enjoying it on a muggy late August evening in Minnesota. Poured into a La fin du monde tulip. Dense reddish brown, 1/2 a finger of khaki head that fades to a little crown, but leaves decent lacing. Nose is modest, promising some woody wine barrel and tannins, maybe a little leather and dark fruit…plums. Taste kicks things up considerably…really good.
