This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells chocolatey, with some smoke, roast, strawberry jam, red wine, and tobacco.
This is really intriguing to me – it’s still very stout like, even with a lot of age on it. I kind of would have thought that it would get more sour and more funky with time, but that’s not really the case here. There’s very little vinegary character, with a chocolate covered berry vibe to it, and a nice earthy, roasty, and tobacco-forward stout character. Most sour stouts that I have are just wildly sour and don’t evoke stout themes very strongly – this bucks that trend nicely.
This is medium bodied, slightly creamy, with a very restrained acidity.
This was absolutely a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed it.
