Brauerei Nikl "Nikl-Bräu Bruder Bruno Red Smoked Indian Pale Ale"
,33l brown glass bottle, "Mindestens haltber bis: 29.06.18" and sampled on 26.09.17
Look: Hazy amber body with golden highlights and visible yeast in suspension beneath a massive head of yellowed off-white foam. Excellent head retention and lacing.
Smell: Quite yeasty, and to the point that it overshadows mostly everything else. There's some light grainy malt and spicy & floral hops but I'm not finding and smoke.
Taste: There is some limited smokiness in the flavor, and well as some lightly caramelish and grainy malt. It's solidly bitter which leads to a dry finish. Spiciness lingers with a mild hint of smoke.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: It's a bit yeasty and I wish I'd received a bottle that had perhaps sat a little longer undisturbed. Beyond that the mild smokiness was fine, simply lending an extra note. A fair "red IPA".
