Poured into a tulip. Slightly hazy medium-dark brown with a modest tan head. Oak and slight bourbon on the first whiff; I did not get much else. The taste was bourbon and oak with a surprisingly high amount of caramel and cola flavor. Some funky notes and slight spice but not much (in this bottle). A bready, dry finish with lingering cola.

500mL bottle from Sherlock’s (Marietta, GA). 10.99. 2018, released in April. Served in a Monday Night snifter. Enjoyed 5/4/18.

Pours a deep brown, almost like black tea. Rests in the glass opaque with chestnut highlights and a little more than two fingers of tightly packed beige bubbles. The head fades, leaving a central island a wide, thick halo.

The aroma is significantly sweeter than I expect from saisons. Bourbon-tinged vanilla, wet oak, vague cocoa and some fairly distant earthy funk.

Tastes of faint bourbon, caramel, bread, earthy spice, a funky, floral bitterness, hay and wet wood. There is considerably more going on than I’m used to in the style.

Medium body, slightly creamy feel with restrained carbonation. Bourbon drenched oak, caramel and earthy bread crusts play on the palate in the finish.

Another tasty barrel aged brew from Monday Night’s Garage. Far from my expectations of saisons, Father Figure’s barrel character and toasty notes set it apart.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this bottle.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin off white head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin blanket.

S - Aromas of infection, barrel notes, bourbon, malts, little bit of saison funk.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, starts off with nice vanilla followed by a hot mess. Infection, little roasted malts, chocolate. Just a mess.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, slick, thin.

O - Overall this was mess of a beer. The barrel notes are nice but everything else is downright awful.

Bourbon Barrel Black Saison received in trade, shared with rudzud

Pours a giant foamy pillowy head that fades at a med pace, lots of lacing, dark almost black color

Nose dark brown malts, toffee, biscuity candy, wild like farmhouse saison like it fermented too hot, slight sour like it was slightly infected stout, a touch of barrel, sour like slight infected, tons of sadness infection with clashing dark and saison

Taste similar, dark malts, cocoa and a little roast, creamy and vanilla, mixed with mild saison grainy doughy wheat grist spices etc, then into a mild sour infection like thing, a little weird bitter finish, metallic weirdness and lots of clashing everything with pure sadness and elf tears

Mouth is med bod, a bit creamy, decent carb

Overall just, I don't even know, just bad, everything wrong mixed together and then infected
