thankful for a friend who brought a few back from his travels from these guys, i was so impressed with their wild beers when i was first introduced to them, but its been years, this is a treat, funky, super drinkable, well refined for being old worldy, fruity bretty funk to it, a cool vinous oak profile too, but it doesnt make it heavy, this is real delicate, hot weather saison as far as i am concerned, really super good. extremely blonde from the bottle, excited looking, appears like champagne almost, but not really giving rise to such a robust head. the nose is summery white wine, a sauvignon blanc type with very light tannins and some vanilla from the oak, a little newer wood to it, white florals too, green grapes and pears, subtle saison yeast, more bretty to me, definitely a mixed culture thing, some lemon but not a lot of acid, really appealing, distinctive too. the flavor follows along, this is fruity and fermentation driven, with some peachy character, clean citrus, and enough oak to give it some maturity against the fresh verdant vibes this carries too. the grain is super light, maybe wheat, some pils malt likely too, but the grain is in many ways a nonfactor here, except that its so obviously a table type, light in body as they come, some middle sweetness but starkly dry at the end, nice carbonation, large sized bubbles, gone from the palate with a peachy and even pineapple sort of note at the end, funky, tropical, springy and delicate, sexy. awesome beer, i always feel weird about beer like this, like i want it in a 12 pack of cans, its that kind of drinkable, not too fermenty to be appealing in high doses, but its in a rare to me small format bottle that mandates i only have a little bit of it. someday id love to smash like seven of these units, what an awesome and complex little saison here, super well put together, loved it!
