The Glutenberg Stout stands out for its opaque black color and powerful scents of cocoa and roasted malts.
Robust notes of espresso coffee, dark chocolate and ripe dark malt fruit give it a pleasant mouthfeel that will not leave Stout lovers indifferent.

16oz can pours an extremely deep brown-black color with a thick but fizzy dark tan-colored head that fades down to a thin layer. Smells of dark, roasted malts, rich chocolate, and a thick syrupy aroma. Flavors of coffee, dark chocolate, burnt malt, dark fruits, and a little bit of cola. Slight sweetness and a fairly hefty burnt bitterness at the close. Light to medium body with a relatively smooth feel and not tons of carbonation mouthfeel.
This was a solid stout, but I don't think it's life-changing or anything. The fairly light body was a bit surprising, but it makes it more sessionable for sure; It kind of reminds me of Irish Stouts I've had in the past. Probably won't buy again but it was fun to try.

Poured into a wide mouth grip shaped goblet: color is dark brown/black, head is light brown presenting quickly then dissipating to nothing, no lacing.
Smell is mixed malt and light chocolate and some coffee, thin in depth with not much hop character.
Taste has more depth with adjunct malt, chocolate and coffee flavors, light sugary sweetness but still thin and a bit watery; light hop earth and grass.
Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, sweet but also thin in fullness, lower bitterness.
Overall a gluten free brew that does taste like a non-barley brew - thin in flavor and more sweet chocolate, than beer like.

Pours very dark. Tan foam. Sour aroma. Roasted chocolate malt body. Slightly sweet finish. Good flavor but a little odd. Gets better the more you drink. Who needs glutens anyhow.

Look: Pours dark brown with hints of yellow with a minimal 1/3 finger of head. The head disappears almost immediately.
Smell: Black licorice, figs, smoke and molasses. All smells I would typically welcome in a stout, but in this case they seem almost chemically induced rather than natural.
Taste: Black licorice oil, with generous amounts of smoke and a hint of coffee.
Feel: Mildly carbonated, very light and watery.
Full disclosure, I didnt realize this was a gluten free beer till I got it home. It is OK as far as Gluten free beers go, maybe even good on that sliding scale. Judging it as a beer though, rather than a gluten free beer I would earn a C, and be something I would avoid in the future.

473 mL can from the LCBO; best before Jun 2022 and served barely chilled. Millet and corn, but no buckwheat listed. A recipe change, perhaps?
Pours a deep, oily brownish-black colour, giving rise to nearly a finger of frothy, light tan-coloured head that lasts for two or three minutes, tops. A creamy collar is the only remnant of note, with little in the way of lace - looks alright, and the nose is at least near the mark, if not precisely on target. I'm getting figgy dark fruits, black coffee, subtle cocoa and some syrupy sugar sweetness, with a very faint hint of ashiness.
It doesn't taste too bad - stout-adjacent at best, but it's a better than average mimic of the style. I got a blast of black licorice candy right on the first sip, but it subsided thereafter and was replaced with more traditional flavours - mild coffee, roasted malts, maybe a touch of molasses and cocoa. Finishes with hints of earthy, leafy hops, coffee roastiness and syrup sweetness, followed by a relatively dry aftertaste. Light in body; feels thin for a stout, with fairly brisk carbonation that prickles the palate, adding some crispness that scrubs the palate after each sip. Very easy to gulp back, even though I'm not enamored with it as a stout.
Final Grade: 3.48, a serviceable B-. Adding the coffee and cacao nibs is probably what saved Glutenberg Stout from being nothing more than a sub par knock off of the real thing. Fortunately, it's a halfway decent approximation - better than my average GF beer experience, that's for sure, and so I feel compelled to recommend it to folks who consume GF products. I'd have no problem drinking this if it were handed to me, but let's be honest: the only reason I'd ever buy it again is if I developed a gluten allergy.

Look: Resembles more of a brown ale than a shout to me. Caramel colored head that quickly melted to a very thin ring around the edge with little wisps of foam in the center.
Smell and Taste: Seems to be hoppy but the cocoa and coffee is almost non excitant.
Feel: This has got to be the wateriest "stout" I have ever experienced. Thin, harsh on the tongue and very dry. Seltzer like.
Overall: Glad I tried it but kick me if I buy another.

T:. Sweet milky chocolate, roasted chocolate and ash.
F:. Very slick mouthfeel, not as full body as expected.
O:. I like this beer, other than the mouthfeel, but overall this is a nice gluten free stout.

DATE: January 25, 2020... OCCASION: nearly eight hours of basketball action ended with Will's team capturing the 3v3 7/8 basketball title... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint... pours a jet-black body that briefly supports a two-fingered brown body, before it sizzles into a sparkling, popping absence... licorice, odd plasticine mildew or a sweaty gymbag funk--which I believe is the millet--light roasted coffee, lactic milkiness, and a hint of tea leaf... its mouthfeel is medium-bodied, porter-like in its approximation to soda, with a textured finish that is slightly oily and syrupy sweet... its aftertaste is milky, with some chocolate and minty sharpness... its coffee bean is subtle but noticeable... this really comes through for a beer lacking malt in a malt-driven style, wedding bean with substitutes that hold the flavor together... warming at 6%, a bit of crunch early, and an appreciable roasted exhale... looking forward to m more of their product...

16 oz 2019 can served in a Belgian snifter.
The mild aroma of multi-grain bread is followed by a bold, robust, complex flavor. The overly vegetative (especially in the aftertaste) flavor has hints of chocolate and herbs, but the flavor lacks harmony.

In the wake of NBS (Week 746), it is beCANming an All-Stout morning as I CANtinue to play catch-up & further The CANQuest (tm) in so doing. In fact, given the previous & this one, it is taking a turn for the bizarre.
From the CAN: "100% Gluten-Free * 100% Great Beer"; "Millet & Buckwheat Beer"; "Ingredients: Water, Millet, Buckwheat, Hops, CANdi Syrup, Coffee, Cocoa Nibs, Yeast."
The Crack! revealed another brimful craft CAN & for that, I salute les Quebecoises who made this beer! I further saluted them with a quick (vite) heavy-handed C-Line Glug that raised a very brief two fingers of fizzy, foamy, soapy, deep-tan/light-brown head with very low retention. Bye! Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44) & it seemed like a black hole, not only not allowing light to penetrate, but it seemed to be sucking the light out of the room! Nose had the sharp scent of buckwheat, one that I will always associate with my late PapPap Kirsch, my adored & cherished maternal grandfather. He turned me onto a LOT of things that have carried into my later life, including coffee, pineapple juice & grapefruit (both fruit & juice). Buckwheat pancakes were one of his faves, but after my first go-'round, I realized that buckwheat was for the birds! Meh. This had the roastiness of a Stout, but not a precise maltiness. It was clear from the nose that this was ersatz. Mouthfeel was medium, a little light for the style, but better than I expected in a G-F offering. The taste was actually pretty good. I would hesitate to call it a Stout, per se, but it certainly had a nice roastiness, especially of coffee & light cocoa. The buckwheat gave it a sharpness that I could have done without, but it was not totally unpleasant, as it CAN be on its own. I have to give props to the brewers for juggling these variegated ingredients into an ersatz Stout, but ersatz it was & ersatz it shall ever be. Lipstick on a pig, wolf in sheep's clothing, ad nauseum. To mistake this for a Stout would be a grievous error & one that I will not CANmit. The word Stout should be enclosed with quotation marks & perhaps a trademark symbol, to read "Stout" (tm) so as to indicate that it is a Stout in name only. Finish was dry & bitter, but it struck an unpleasant note throughout that made it a tough drink. Buckwheat may be G-F, but it has no place in beer. YMMV.
