At the brewery, into a shaker, pours a thick dark brown/black,?with a 1 finger attractive khaki head and good retention and lacing. On the nose, roasted slightly bitter malts and acrid coffee beans, juicy tobacco, with an edge of non-sweet baker's chocolate. To taste, the tobacco and roasty notes come through strongest and linger. Interesting beer and well made.

Poured from a growler. Dark brown color with a finger of head. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of roasted malt with notes of coffee, ash, cocoa, and smoke. Flavor is also featuring the roasted malt. Burnt grain, cooked down coffee bitterness, smoke, tobacco, and a bit of chocolate that leaves a dry sensation. Medium body and nicely carbonated. I would be more inclined to call this a stout since it features so much roasted malt but this brewer seems to shy away from using that word. He calls a stout a porter and an imperial stout a black barleywine. He can call it anything he wants as long as it is a quality product.
