I picked up a bomber of Thumb Master DIPA from Total Wine on 06/09/2017. No bottled date. 8.5% ABV. Psychedelic-looking label. Old Orange Brewing Co. hails from Orange, CA.
Thumb Master DIPA pours a hazy, ruddy copper with very high carbonation. 5 fingers of tawny foam. Good lacing. The smell is of strong bitter herbs, citrus zest, tropical fruits and malt. The taste starts with big blast of exotic bitter herbs, following immediately by a dark citrus and tropical fruits, all against a moderate malt backbone. The alcohol warms the entire mixture, accentuating the malt backbone.
Thumb Master DIPA reminds me of walking into an Indian knickknack shop burning strong incense. Exotic perhaps, but gagging. I get that Thumb Master is a warming DIPA, not a refreshing one. Still, its bitter-herb flavor is off-putting. Additionally, this DIPA is way too foamy -- just pouring the first glass caused foam to erupt out of the bomber after I set it back down. In short, if you like the taste of bitter herbs drowned in tons of frothy beer foam, then this brew's for you. It definitely wasn't for me.

too malty and carbonated. Too much foam. Picked up a bomber at Total Wine, maybe it was an old bottle. Wouldn't buy again.

Pours a finger of head on a hazy straw body.
The aroma is really floral with some pine and lemon in the background.
The taste starts with a mild lemon bitterness that builds to a moderate bitter in the middle to end. A good dose of malt keeps it balanced.
The texture is thicker with crisp edges.
One of the most drinkable DIPAs out there.
