Cool brew! From a 22 into a tulip.
Two impressions here:
1. Great punch of hop flavor from a robust IPA.
2. Was there too much of good thing here? I was looking for more unique flavor from all the blood oranges that got pumped into the brew, but I think the hops overpowered that. Which left me conflicted, because this was very good for a hoppy double IPA with flavorful hops. AND I'm not one to shy away from those! I just have to be honest that I would've backed off the hops *for this beer* to allow the fruit to play more of a part. This was labeled on the bottle as a "fruit beer," but the 2IPA overpowered that for me. That said, judged purely on being a good 2IPA, I rate it well.
An aside: A durn pretty label on the bottle. Classy and colorful and solid.
I would trust the same brewer to do this in a pale ale that uses the blood oranges and doesn't overwhelm them. Just dial back the hops and ABV because I think you're really on to something intriguing!
