I'm a sucker for a good Belgium dubbel. This one is pretty good, and a nice intro to dubbels for someone new to the style.
Looks great. Dark ruby, rich brown, chestnut. Nice off white foam.
Aroma is subtle, and not bad. Some medicinals but nothing offensive. Light spices and nut.
Taste is fine. Served cold, it opened up as it warmed. It has a clean, semi dark malt profile. Hints of apple and bosco pear. The end witnesses the medicinal and spice characters. Not as sweet as other dubbels. The spiciness and profiles of orchard fruits falls away.
But, it drinks well. Good summer beer that differs from the lighter stuff. Can go well with a juicy burger
