Hammer Chain was born to reinvent our approach to Double IPAs. Named after the spinning blades of our custom-built machine that pulverizes each whole-flower hop, Hammer Chain is brewed with meticulously sourced, vibrant American hop varieties and packed with notes of drippy tropical fruit, radiant peach, and sweet stonefruit.

Love the dynamic taste of the pulverized hops in this beer.

12 oz can from Boise Co-op . Medium golden pour with a light haze, small foamy white head. Light fruity aroma, Oranges. Taste steps it down, hint of citrus with a bigger malt presence. Kind of dull too, but it is a following a big Hazy DIPA . A bit of a letdown.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium golden color with a a white head. SRM of 8-9. Pretty standard. (3.75)

Aroma: Strong aromas of sweet peach, orange citrus, more peach, mango. There's citrus and tropical juice here. (4.00)

Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with tons of orange, peach, and slight pineapple upfront. Follows with mango and pineapple juice sweetness to give it a tropical support. Mostly orange and peach, but enough tropics too. Finishes sweet, juicy, and wet. (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied. Okay carbonation. Sweet and sticky on the palate with minimal bitterness. (3.50)

Compared to Insight Brewing's Mega Dankbot 5/16/20: Pours a much lighter color. Milder aromas. More citrus, and tropical flavors. Less strawberry and peach. Overall, sweeter and juicier.

Overall: A pretty delicious DIPA. Nice citrus, stonefruit, and tropical notes. Hits all 3. The mouthfeel is sort of sticky and sweet. Maybe it's supposed to be and it's on part with the style. The sticky sweetness always drives me the wrong way though. Nevertheless, fantastic flavor and decently impressed here. (Final Rating: 3.89 for a DIPA)

poured from can dated into pint glass.

A: clear deep gold body and a decent frothy off-white head with low retention but heavy lacing, forming a sparse cap
S: sweet floral hops - like mowing grass in Jamaica, if you catch my drift. peach and tropics galore mixed with a tinge of sweet-but-firm malt
T: juicy but near-thin hop, floral and slight fruit, with a little malt thrown in before it circles back around to the hop bittersweetness akin to grapefruit
F: medium carbonation, medium-thick body, and low alcohol presence

Overall (personal opinion):
another solid entry for this brewery. not overpowering, though I can see that being an issue when it comes to hanging in the DDIPA community - people dipping into this style typically look for that pop in the kisser, and this one comes off across easy like a michael mcdonald and kenny loggins jam. I can dig it though.

L - Has a decent heavy imperial IPA look to it; decent, not great lacing. Fresh as I can get it (2 weeks old)
S - Sweet floral hop impression; leans towards raw tropical and grass.
T - Smooth as hell, but not much bite to it; almost on that thin line of sweet or bitter. Not my favorite.
F - good carbonation, without being overblown; fills the palate, and leaves an impression. Still not much thrill, despite the really good balance.
O - not sure I'll buy it again after this pack. But a "clean" tasting double/imperial - kinda blurs the line between the two, but give me Pliny the E any day over this for the weight.

On tap at Prefunk Nampa, served in a nonic.

A: Clear beautiful gold body, minimal head but decent lacing.

S: Pretty big tropical fruit nose...orange marmalade? Peach, mango, hint of an herbaceous note.

T: Right in line with the nose, juicy character with enjoyable fruit notes...peach and orange and sweet grapefruit...medium bitterness. Good stuff.

MF: Medium mouthfeel, nice and clean...alcohol well-hidden for a double IPA.

O: A good DIPA, fairly bright and juicy. Well done.

Only slightly hazy, golden yellow color with lots of carbonation.Had a decent head. Smells lightly malty and very fruity. Taste is mostly fruity, slightly citrus and malty. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly creamy and lacks any real bitterness. Overall an outstanding Double IPA. From a 12 ounce can with a best by date of 4/25/20 into a Spiegelau glass.

Way overpriced at $14.00 and 8%abv as if this beer is luxury--it is NOT.

Price-wise, Literally any other IPA is a better deal than this one. Had high hopes for this as it was my last time to drink beer for a few weeks.

The beer smells fruity but tastes hoppy with like a synthetic cirtrus flavor.

For the price I guess I expected something unique. In the end this is a good beer, not great. This 2IPA is good but I would not buy again based on the steep price.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance- The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a tropical fruit smell with some tangerine, papaya, and pineapple. Along with these smells comes some sweet candy like sugar smells as well as a little bit of a melon smell. Others aromas of a light grapefruit and pine are there as well giving a very sweet and fruity taste to linger on the tongue.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter tropical fruit and malty taste with lots of tangerine and papaya and a bit of a cracker and bready flavor. At the same time there are flavors of a herbal and light grapefruit hop with the grapefruit growing stronger and stronger as the taste advances. All the while some other light hop tastes of a earthy nature comes to the tongue and with the rest of the tastes ends up leaving one with a somewhat more crisp and fruity, but very easy drinking taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thinner and crisp for a double IPA of 8.0 % with a carbonating level that is rather average. For the more crisp and sweeter tastes of the brew the feel is pretty good and makes for a easy sipping brew.
Overall – A nice and easy drinking double. Not the most potent in hop, but the hop tastes are fresh and the flavors are quite nice.

single can in Austin TX. BB 04/25/20
Pours v slightly cloudy gold...more a slightly unfiltered look rather than hazy (thank gawd!). Clear enough to see the active bubbles and nice carbonation. Great lacing.
Aroma is very juicy...mango, orange.
Taste is juicy citrus, with slight sticky aftertaste. 8.0% booze s well hidden...dangerously drinkable.
Wish there was a little more "dank" than juiciness, but that's me. A fine beer...thank you O'Dell for not just giving in and creating (yet another) hazy abomination to brewing like everyone else is now doing.

Tasted in a snifter from draft at Countyline Tavern on September 25, 2019. Look is semi-cloudy amber with a foamy head and lingering lacing. Notes of tropical fruit, ripe peaches and sweet stone fruit.
