On tap at Mohawk Bend in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a clear super dark reddish-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a solid balance of roast and hop characteristics all around.

Serving type: on tap.

Pleasing frothy head on the dark reddish brown brew. Served in a pint shaker. Aroma of wine and cocoa, with flowery hops.

Warm and malty with a big aromatic mouthful of hops. Roasted malt flavors dominate with a big mellow caramel taste. The hops are moderately bitter but full of aromatics. Hints of wintergreen and ripe fruit. Tastes like some Citra hops with the limey tang, some dry pineapple, and a touch of pine.

This keeps coming back to the malty richness. A highly drinkable combo of dark malt with a hoppy intrigue. One of the best of the Black IPA style I've had. I'm always glad to see a more drinkable variety of the hoppy brews coming out of San Diego. On tap at Local Habit.
