The flavor of the barrel does not work very well with the flavor of the beer.

Poured from a capped 750 mL bottle into a standard pint glass, because that was all that was available. Moderate hand. No identifiable date.

A: 4.0 Hazy, golden yellow body. 1 finger of clean, white head with good retention. Nice lacing.

S: 4.0 Very present oak, wood and bourbon notes. Some earth, peat. Hay. Lighter lemon.

T: 3.75 Prominent woody, vanilla, barrel-aged flavors up front. Malt is rather subdued. The hops emerge with a touch of bitterness that combine with the aforementioned flavors to finish the beer rather dryly. Alcohol presence is light and consistent with 5% ABV. Lingering oak, butter in the aftertaste.

M: 4.0 Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. Drinks well.

O: 3.75 I'm back and forth on this one. I enjoyed the barrel-aged qualities and occasionally some blonde ale character pops through. Fairly unique in that I haven't had another brew quite like it, but at times it felt a bit hollow. Not sure the blonde ale base has enough substance to stand up to the barrel aging.

Prost!

Poured from the bottle into a stange glass. Not getting picky on the glassware here too much it says American Blonde on the label anyway...

A deep honey orange to yellow body. Slightly hazy with a nice capped white head, relatively neutral in color nothing bright or muted. Three fingers tall, soapy consistency, but some good retention and a creamy top. A bit darker for my tastes but seems to hint at a more bolder appearance for this style, and big hanging clumpy lacing.

Light buttery notes seems more oak driven than hinting at diacetyl, and some woody character on the nose. Some mild sweetness and thyme like herbality and aromas. Some faint splintered sawdust quality but quite buried. Otherwise ok, and certainly hints at a kiss from wood.

A pleasing light palate, and more into some classic crispness on first sip. Slight rounding mouthfeel hinting at butter and ghee, with not much bread action. Some fruity lemon a bit on the finish, and a good carbonation and crisp pop on the finish as well.

Overall a wooden version of a light ale, that has some interesting character, but is otherwise uneventful, but easily drinkable. Feels larger than it actually is but while missing a lot of pizazz, I can feel sedate enough to know I am not horribly disappointed by this. Not quite Kolsch (hooray) not quite American Blonde Ale either (thank god). So I call ok, and I will drink this bottle till it's end.
