Appearance: Poured with a thumb of head that produced ample lacing and retained exceptionally well. The body is a dark brown with slight red notes and possesses powerful carbonation. There's really nothing negative to say here.
Smell: Musty lemon is the best way I would describe it, as citrus lemon dominates the note with a background of sand, berry yeast and toast struggling to break out but can't quite make it. Warming lends itself to less demon and more of the diverse yeast presence.
Taste: The mild lemon note permeates the beer, and while I wouldn't call it sour, it is noticeable. Starts with some mild malt that turns to a very nice and fruity yeast with strong berry and plum notes that builds with the citrus to make a mild sour snap at the end.
Mouthfeel: Honestly, it feels like everything about this beer is trying to hold back the sour note from getting out of control. The yeast, the carbonation and malt, and event then it can't quite entirely manage which makes for an odd experience. Great transitioning and evolution on this one.
Drinkability: On the lighter end of medium body which seems peculiar for the 7.2 ABV. Settles down well and despite the high carbonation, to overt gas issues. Really the sourness here seems out of place here, but it certainly makes for a unique experience.
Final Thoughts: As I said, there is a sour note that permeates this one, and it seems a bit out or place here, but not outrageously so. The other parts of the beer I honestly wish could break through it entirely, but to no avail. This is still a damn good beer, suited for after an early spring walk.
