West Coast IIPA
A collaboration with our good friend Drunk Polkaroo, Two Pad Stack is an old school West Coast IIPA. But what is a Two Pad Stack you ask? Let’s let Polk tell you in his own words-That's the nature of the Two Pad Stack, the 2 on 1, defenseman doesn't prevent the pass, takes the shooter, the gamble the goalie makes, tossing it all at the other side of the net, reckless abandon, calculated but still devilishly desperate. Make the save, be the hero, miss it and be the goat!

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 24 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours foggy and translucent, its golden yellow-hued body crowned with just under two fingers of lumpy, foamy white head that recedes over the next five-plus minutes. A quarter-inch cap of soapy suds lingers for a bit longer, with a frothy collar lasting for the entire session; clinging to the glass is a sponge print-patterned coat of lace. Pine sap, grapefruit and floral, earthy hops on the nose, with lesser notes of passion fruit, pineapple, stone fruit and bready, wheaty malts.
It's a solid DIPA - maybe not as brutally bitter as I might've anticipated, based on the "West Coast IIPA" tag, but its sensibilities are still decidedly old school (i.e. it's not a hazebomb, bro). The malt backbone is bready and wheaty, paired with fruitier hop notes of peach, pineapple, berries and grapefruit; these flavours are displaced by more bitter flavours of piney, earthy, resiny hops. Finishes boozy and a little spicy, with grapefruit and berries lingering into a resiny aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with middling carbonation that adds some spritz to this DIPA's smooth, fairly soft mouthfeel. I found this quite drinkable for the style, mostly due to its restrained bitterness, but it does come off as a little boozy for 9%.
Final Grade: 4.02, an A-. Sawdust City rarely whiffs on their IPAs, and Two Pad Stack is as good as any of 'em. Keeping in mind that this can is like six months old, I still enjoyed the heck out of it - you don't see a lot of old school DIPAs these days, and the handful that I've come across in the past couple of years weren't as good as this one. I will keep an eye out for fresh stock, and update this review as needed - oh, and Go Oilers, I guess.

473ml can served cold into a chalice. LCBO purchase for just over $4 CDN. Canned November 24, 2023.
Appearance - Light golden color with some orange-ish hues. A finger and a half of foamy white head is poured and rests comfortably on top. Very good staying power. Fairly hazy, but certainly not turbid looking. Beautiful string of lacing left behind.
Smell - Some pine, grapefruit and pineapple. Pretty west coast as advertised. Malt notes strong in backing it up.
Taste - Kind of sweet and fruity up front, with pineapple and other sweet citrus leading the way. Melon and cantaloupe are in here. Back end is more traditional with some pine resin. A bit boozy here too, but not unwelcome for a 9% beer. Fairly low bitterness throughout. Bitterness does start showing up more after a few sips.
Mouthfeel - Fairly full bodied, nearing gassy levels of carbonation. A touch hot from the ABV.
Overall - A pretty good DIPA that matches up with the standard set at Sawdust City. Worth picking up for sure, although I'd be hard pressed to rank it against various other DIPA's they've released in the past. They all seem to fall into the very good and very consistent pile, without one being extraordinarily memorable.

Pours a lightly hazed peach with a chunky, long lasting head. Pineapple, lemon, mango and pine in the nose, with plenty of fresh bread to balance. The taste is of pineapple juice, tropical hops and treacly malts with a prominent edge of booziness belying the high ABV. The mouthfeel is full bodied with some spice booze kick and high carbonation. The finish is moderately bitter with plenty of residual hop and malt notes.
A passable DIPA but a bit restrained in the hop dankness department and too boozy, even for the ABV.
