On tap served into 10 oz. snifter.

A: Deep, clear amber/brown with a thick off white head. Pretty good head retention throughout. Looks pretty good.

S: Lots of bourbon on the nose, with just hints of caramel and herbal hops.

T: Taste follows the nose quite a bit. There's definitely a strong bourbon presence (vanilla, ash, alcohol, sweetness, oak), but it's not dominating. There are still flashes of hops (mostly pine/herbal) and the slightly burnt caramel malt base. Lots of wood notes present in the taste too. Ends slightly alcoholic and with hints of oak.

M: Super smooth....easy to drink. No complaints here.

O: I'm the biggest fan of whiskey aged beers, but this one was actually pretty tasty. The bourbon adds interesting flavors, but doesn't take over. As far as red ales go, this one is definitely up there.

On tap at Tryst. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Ruby reddish orange. Hazy. Huge khaki head. Great retention that leaves beautiful lacing.

Smell - Bourbon and hops in equal measure. Deep caramel. Oakiness persists.

Taste - I thought the bourbon would dominate, but the base beer still comes through. Grapefruit hop. Rich sweet carame. Bourbon is present, but never overwhelming. It lingers with some oak in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Still kinda bitter. Reminding me of the hop additions. Medium heavy.

Overall - Well damn this is good. Surprising balance to the beer and the barrel.
