Legit confused, how is the ABV unchanged from the regular if this is bourbon barrel aged? Was it aged for 3 days? I got some wood notes but this is an absolute joke of a barrel aged beer.
I had this fresh on tap. What's going on here? Literally all I got was wood if anything you could have told me this was the regular and I might have bit. Try more bourbon barrel aged beers or really any barrel aged beer, this ain't it chief. Avery has a whiskey aged stout as a flagship that dunks on this. Red ale/red ipa or whatever this fails In comparison if we're talking rating. It isn't that it tastes bad, it doesn't. It's the surpreme lack of barrel.

On tap served into 10 oz. snifter.
A: Deep, clear amber/brown with a thick off white head. Pretty good head retention throughout. Looks pretty good.
S: Lots of bourbon on the nose, with just hints of caramel and herbal hops.
T: Taste follows the nose quite a bit. There's definitely a strong bourbon presence (vanilla, ash, alcohol, sweetness, oak), but it's not dominating. There are still flashes of hops (mostly pine/herbal) and the slightly burnt caramel malt base. Lots of wood notes present in the taste too. Ends slightly alcoholic and with hints of oak.
M: Super smooth....easy to drink. No complaints here.
O: I'm the biggest fan of whiskey aged beers, but this one was actually pretty tasty. The bourbon adds interesting flavors, but doesn't take over. As far as red ales go, this one is definitely up there.
