Oskar Blues Grill & Brew

Notes: Formerly Cyclhops / Beerito

Beerito (4% ABV, 21 IBUs) is a light bodied, amber Mexican lager brewed with premium German and coloRADo sourced craft malts and featuring a crisp accent from noble hops. The mouth feel is incredibly smooth with flavors of walnut, toasted bread, plum, honey and cocoa - 4% ABV doesn't always come with this kind of character.

Deep Amber with moderate, fine bubbled carbonation, clear filtered, with a finger of beige head.

Smells of Carmel, toasted malts. Piece of caramel toasted malts, toffee, pizza dough, very malt forward.

Medium body with medium carbonation.

Got this at world market in Redding, drinking it here September 6, 2018.

Let me be fair, for what it is, it fits the style perfectly and elevates it. Very floral with flavors of honey and sweet fruit. A light yeast presence accents the other flavors. Only issue is the floral part is a touch too much and produces a perfume like feel on the pallate and nose.

Didn’t hate this. Nice amber color, crisp and light with a good malt backbone. More substance than a lot of Mexican lagers, nice change of pace. Not too much residual lace, thin with a high carb level and smooth finish.

Poured into a half pint glass: color is nice darker amber, head is very light tan with super fine bubbles and few small ones, head presents at least 1/2 inch deep on the initial pour and then remains about 1/4 deep with some nice lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is fairly subdued, limited malty notes or much else, letting warm to see if more presents.

Taste is pleasant vienna malt with caramel, toast, toffee, nuttiness, then some light herbal and grassy hops. Great caramelized flavor thats not overly sweet with balance of the other malt flavors and hop balance.

Mouthfeel is moderate, carbonation seems just right, a bit of drying on the tongue.

Overall a pleasant spin on the style with a good caramelized flavor and malty depth for just 4.0% abv.

Dumped out from the can, probably too aggressively but whatever, a deep copper color that's clear enough to read a book through. Huge 2 1/2 - 3 finger off white, rocky head sat on top and worked its way down to a pretty thick foam cap. Chunks of lacing cling to the glass. Nice looking beer, a bit of a surprise actually. Scent is pretty light, with hints of bread and some honey sweetness, and the smallest amount of grassy hops. Taste is pretty similar with a strong hit of bready malts balanced out by some very light honey notes and a really nice hop backbone. A bit of fruitiness comes through, but not really overpowering. Feel is almost too light for my taste but not too off considering the style, nicely carbonated and just right to down another soon afterwards. And at 4% you can do that all day.

Overall, a pretty good lager and a fair Vienna lager.

Look: cloudy. Amber, tea-like color. White fizzy head that dissipated.
Smell: not much there. Some generic lager smell, honey, bready malts.
Taste: nothing very robust, but a sweet malt taste. Fruity.
Feel: medium light body. Moderate carbonation.

Pours a dark amber with a white head. Smells of hops, malt, and bread. Tastes of slightly sweet malt, caramel, biscuit, slightly bitter hops, and light fruit. Medium-light body and medium carbonation. Overall a tasty and hoppy Mexican lager.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a fair light murky amber color with a slight transparency about it. Some carbonation was seen rising at a mild pace. Just a wisp of a little white head, some foaminess quickly slid off into oblivion.
The aroma had some honey, biscuits/bread, light caramel/toffee, some coffee sweetness, light earthiness, and a cocoa powder rolling underneath.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a certain dryness and a rounded earthy to grassy sort of dried edge to it. Mild bready to earthy aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt medium. ABV felt on par. Finish was bready, and earthy sweet.
Overall, I would have liked some of that honey I got in the aroma to come out more in the flavor and maybe some of those other qualities Oskar Blues said they put in it. But honestly, I have to admit, this isn't a bad beer, might even go well with some burgers.

Beerito | Oskar Blues Grill & Brew. Poured from the can into a pint glass, the head's two fingers thick, with soolid lacing, and a clear deep brown amber body.

Smells like rich and bold malts with lighter hops going on.

I taste slight candied apricot along with the malts. Again, lighter on the hops.

Medium light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll give Beerito | Oskar Blues Grill & Brew a 4.25.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a bright amber color and a clear consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy / rocky head that lasted an average amount of time. Average lacing.

S: A fair aroma of malt, light hops, citrus, and a bready quality.

T: Tasted of a little bit of citrus (a little bit of lemon), a big shot of malt (very much of the style), a bit of hops (mainly in the finish), and the bready / grainy quality. The typical Vienna lager flavor is pretty uninteresting and this one is in line with that. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a clean, sharp finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: Like the flavor, the overall impression of this beer is "meh". If you like the style give it a try, otherwise, go for something more interesting.

Copper color with a thick one finger head with decent retention and leaving laces.
Aroma with notes of Maillard malt, floral hops and bread.
Nice flavor with notes of floral, spicy and citrusy hops, Italian bread crust, ginger, nuts and plums. Cocoa is just a subtle sprinkle. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness.
Bordering medium body with appropriate carbonation.
Well done Vienna Lager. This was very pleasant to drink. Good balance between elegant malt complexity and a combination of noble hops with subtle American accent.
By the way, its name, Mexican Lager is very misleading. I had the initial impression that it was a corn adjunct lager.

12 oz. Can
Canned On: 07/24/17
ABV: 4.5%

Pours a pretty nice clean/clear amberish color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger off-white head, which leaves some really nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, slightly hoppy, with some bready notes. The taste is pretty nice, malty, slight hop note, bready. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a pretty nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a really nice thirst quencher.

Beerito brewed by Oskar Blues Grill & Brew, with an ABV of 4.50% This Vienna Lager pours out a nice deep copper color with a nice foamy off white head. Really digging the color of this brew. This brew has some spotty lacing to it, it does stick to the side of the glass. The smell is mild with roasted grians and malts. There is also a nice slight sweetness and mild hop bitterness in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste, it is mild with smooth flavors. You pick up a decent amount of roasted grians and malts. Really light on the flavors, was kinda looking for more. The body is a mild Medium. There is nothing overpowering about Beerito, it has a light balance to it. This brew goes down nice and smooth. There is not much to this brew, but it is really enjoyable to drink. This brew would go nice on a hot summer day. The mouth feel is Roasted, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Beerito a 3.75 out of 5. Oskar Blues Grill & Brew, did a decent job with this brew.

Poured from a 12oz can with a canned on date of 6/6/17; into a pint glass.
Appearance - amber; swarming bubbles that sustain a thick, fluffy, off-white head. Lacing is thick and sticky in areas.
Smell - a light caramel maltiness; a slight candied sweetness.
Taste - more full of flavor than a typical light lager; the nose matches the flavor profile.
Feel - again, a fuller bodied light beer. No watered down mouthfeel!
Overall - if you're looking for a low abv that doesn't come across as weak and watered down, this is a pretty good choice!

L: brilliant amber brown liquid topped by a 1/2" cream colored foam collar

S: rich grains with a hint of bread crumb, nuts and light toast and a faint spicy noble hop scent.

T: Its all malt, light toast, mildly sweet, some nuts, light toast and subtle malt flavors finishing up with a pleasant, balancing tea flavored bitter accent emerging mid-palate.

F: The body is medium, the carbonation average and the beer is crisp and refreshing.

A very pleasant Vienna. Balanced, too.
Looks are a clear amber. Smells are mostly malt. Taste has modest hops designed to keep the malt in balance instead of pandering to typical American buds. Feel cleanses the palate for more food.
OA: An enjoyable beer that does a lot by not trying to do too much.

I really wanted to like this more, since it is a local brewery (sort of).
Great light brown/amber color and classic Vienna Lager aromas, but at 4%abv, it's just a little weak and watery. Head dissipates instantly. Clean and light lawnmower beer, that's just more water than beer it seems. My 12 pack was full of damaged cans, which they were notified about, and they more than took care of it. Great customer service, but OB's awful logo make we want to cringe...

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass, "canned on" date 8-8-16.

APPEARANCE: pours a clear, amber color with one-finger tan head that slowly dissipated until a thin, unbroken layer of small bubbles remained, higher than average carbonation, there is significant lacing on the glass.

SMELL: bread, brown sugar, there is a toasted, earthy note.

TASTE: initially sweet brown sugar and bread then a roasted note and finishes with an earthy hop bite, definitely noble hops and very tasty.

PALATE: light body and higher than average carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a very good beer and the 4% ABV is most welcome, I would never guess by the taste it was such a low ABV, well done, I really enjoyed this and will definitely buy it again, i would recommend to anyone who enjoys the style.

L: Clear golden amber pour. 1.5 fingers of foamy head. Falls fast with ample lacing.

S: Earthy and malty. A bit of caramel sweetness

T/F: Sweet caramel malts... bread and grains. Balanced with some hop bitterness towards the back end. Light in body... good carbonation. A little medicinal/earthy.

O: kind of a 'meh' beer. Expected better from Oskar Blues, and not a lot of reason to revisit this one. Easy session beer I suppose, and seeing as I just mowed the lawn this filled its purpose.

This is a dark, lightly hazy brownish color. the head is lasting, firm, and white. The aroma has a little malt, a lager light sulfur note, and just a hint of spice. The taste is balanced, with plenty of clean malt and a firm bitterness. Fairyl full mouthfeel and lots of malt in the finish. This is one excellent lager.

12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 12/15/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/copper with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of honey, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, pepper, light plum/apple, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and balance of bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit fruity/yeasty, but pretty minimal. Flavors of big honey, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, pepper, and toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, pepper, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal yeast notes present. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4%. Overall this is a very nice Vienna lager. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the low ABV. Spot on style example. A very enjoyable offering.
