Bourbon Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY (9% ABV) was massively doused with unsweetened pure liquid cacao made by our friends at Cholaca, then dosed with Hotbox Roasters’ cold brew from Mexican coffee beans. Get it in a grande, a venti, or a trenta… just kidding, put it straight in yer mouthhole. “Ten FIDY Imperial Stout doesn’t know how to use its inside voice in the first place; and on this one, we hooked it up to a Cholaca-and-coffee amplifier and turned the volume up to 11,” said Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations for Oskar Blues.

Tall boy from the Mills River brewery. Code stamped on the bottom: Smoker, Joker, Midnight, Mocha.
Duvel tulip. Black body, brown highlights. Big, overreaching, lingering brown head.
Smell is chocolate syrup, old/subtle beans, significant bourbon.
Creamy, mostly flat body is mostly mellow bourbon & a lightly sweet stout. Some Ash, lingering bitterness, faint coffee.
The lack of confident coffee is a big disappointment, but the feel, alcohol levels, un-crazy barrel, it ends up just being a pretty good, albeit expensive stout.

Appearance - Pours jet black with a thin mocha colored head that settles to a thin ring.
Aroma - Huge rich fudge aroma, it smells like a liquid fudge brownie. There is a little coffee peeking out but there is so much bakers chocolate and rich decadent fudge it is hard to find. Little bit of vanilla and brown sugar with a hint of bourbon.
Taste - The taste is no where near as sweet or chocolaty as the nose let on. The taste is a balance of roasted malts, bakers chocolate, vanilla, coffee beans and bourbon. There is a little barrel presence, the taste is actually not very sweet at all more bitter chocolate than sweet.
Feel - High side of medium, still slightly creamy the carbonation seems a touch high. A little warming from the alcohol with a nice dry finish.
Overall - Pretty complex flavors, the nose and taste are pretty different for me. Still really easy drinking and tasty.

Pretty subpar compared to the regular TF and the barrel aged TF...even comes in at a lowly 9% (you would think it would still be at least 10.5?). Nothing special here. A barrel aged Ten Fidy with coffee and cacao sounds like it would be a dream, but feel pretty let down with this one.

A Stovepipe can recently purchased at the Tasty Weasel in Longmont dated 05/16/18. Pouring in my Ten Fidy glass for the review.
Look- Pours a oily dark brown leaving a few centimeters of creamy mocha colored foam in it's wake.
Smell- Decadent dark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, brown sugar, faint vanilla.
Taste- Dark chocolate, roast, bourbon, molasses, mild tobacco/char and prominent oak in the finish.
Feel- Creamy, but noticeably thinner than other Fidy's I've reviewed.
Overall- It's mocha, coffee and barrel as advertised. An excellent barrel aged beer but I'd hoped it would be more decadent and dessert-like with a slightly sweeter taste and thicker feel. This is more like bitter dark chocolate. Definitely worth a try if you happen to wander in one of their breweries.
