(5 oz tiny snifter pour at the brewery yesterday evening... review copied from notes taken on my phone)
Terrible name, fascinating beer... Gin influence is mild; definitely a tiki spice (falernum? pimento dram?) thing, undeniable... Smells woody and hogo, bit of island sugar... palate is not much different, just more dried tropical fruits, subtle cayenne-ish spicy heat... so much to dissect here... wish they bottled this; one of the more interesting beers I've had as of late
what I can add from memory: kind of brassy-orange (not quite tawny) in color, bit of chill haze too perhaps... definitely some booze presence, though not in the form of heat, more so maybe enhancing the rich velvety texture of its body... I was at first skeptical about the 'tiki' reference in its name, but being well familiar with tiki cocktails I was pretty much astonished how that character jumped out in the aftertaste; comparison?: hmm, maybe a Mai Tai, idk... the name, despite how ridiculous it is, was what intrigued me; had a sample of it following a full pour of Old Chub, but it was interesting enough for me not to pass up a more voluminous pour (2027)
