Collaboration with Interboro Brewing
First, we streamed mulberry juice thorough Interboro's Mad Fat Fluid and completely fermented it dry, creating a plush base of berry neutral aromas. Next, we swapped in a luscious mix of Wai-Iti, Rakau, Citra and Mosaic hops, organized in a manner just bitter enough to reset your notions at the moment when you think you have sorted where the juice’s juice ends and the hops' juiciness begins.

16 ounce can in a nonic pint glass.
Bright orange colored brew with a modest white cap that endures and leaves blotch and ring lacing. Some wheat cloudiness.
Strong berry aroma, so that's what mulberry overkill smells like. Ok, I guess. Then there's the sugar, and, thankfully, some citrus hop aromas to save the day.
Lots of berry flavor, some lemon, and a healthy dose of orange. I get some of the lactose sweetness and some underlying wheat.
Juicy it is. There's enough foundation to label it medium bodied but it finishes like one of those artificially orange flavored vitamin C drops that mom gave me as a kid.
The "Imperial" abv doesn't work. Good thing for citra and mosaic hops; they post the bail money here.

A) pours a cloudy, TANG orange body that lifts a an off-white, sunset tinged head that laces a lot.
S) slight aromas of mulberry, (too much so), without enough hop and yeast aromatics
T) Tastes of mulberry first, then wheat, and a klapotis of confused seas. Not too sweet, but masks the hops as I find with lots of juice added beers. There’s subtle lemon and orange notes in the finish that rounds things up nicely.
O) IF you like fruity Strong wheat ales - this is for you. Nice collaboration, but TOO FANCY for me.

Canned on 8/9/2018 and poured into Carton teku glass. It pours a cloudy, bright orange color with slight ruby hues, and a small, milk-white cap and thin sheen of lacing. The nose is rather subdued but there are distinct aromas of mulberry, lactose, and and a whiff of wheat cracker. On the whole, the smell is on the sweet side, without noticeable hops. The taste opens with a lot of sweet mulberry and lactose which matches the nose, followed at mid-sip by a spicy, slightly bitter hop blend of Mosaic, Citra, Rakau, and Wai-Iti that add some really nice lemon and orange notes. The wheat cracker is prevalent at the finish and in the after taste. The taste is far from ordinary and the various flavors compliment each other very well. This ale features a rich, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation, and the 7.4% ABV is noticeable. Given the sweetness it's a fairly boozy. Overall, Fat Mad Monkey is a unique, and thoroughly enjoyable brew with lots of flavor. It's adventuresome but it works, as you'd expect from Carton and Interboro, two of the finest brewers in the metro area.
