Collaboration with Bolero Snort

Ok Cowmpadres, we will do a carrot cake inspired beer with you. Sure, you can name it. Sure, you can draw Bull-Augie for the can. All we need to do is completely deconstruct the cake flavors and reorganize them as a beer that evokes carrot cake while tasting like a beer. For starters, let’s invent a fermentable carrot sugar by dehydrating carrots and stirring them through liquid nitrogen. Then, we'll powder that and add it to a milk porter mash. From there, it should be easy. Trust us ;)

WATER: ATL HGH
GRIST: CARROT SUGAR, WALNUT FLOUR, GOLDEN PROMISE, MALTED OATS, CRYSTAL 65, ROAST BARLEY, FLAKED OATS, LACTOSE, PALE CHOCOLATE MALT
OG/FG: 17.6°P/4.9°P
YEAST: LONDON III
HOPS: ARAMIS
CONTAINS: RAISINS, MOLASSES, CINNAMON, NUTMEG, CLOVE, VANILLA BEAN

Okay, a carrot cake beer.

In a porter.

That’s logical.

It looks like a porter, with a blackish pour supporting a tan head. The nose ..... is an amalgamation of aromas. There’s stone fruit and chocolate notes, but the nutmeg and clove shift this in a direction most porters don’t go.

The taste is really elevated by the nutmeg and clove, but I’m not sure this is anywhere near carrot cake. All I know is I like it - just a really nice, easy drinking porter.

Canned on 11/7/2018. Poured into Carton pint glass. It pours a mahogany color with cola hues and more than a finger of foamy, khaki-colored head and thick lacing. On the nose there is roasted malt, peat, tobacco, raisin, and oats. There's a lot going on in the taste. It opens with chocolate malt, raisin, and vanilla, followed by smoky peat, barley, molasses, cinnamon, and clove. It finishes with a considerable amount of spicy bitterness. It's a complex and interesting set of tastes that work well together. Although feel is a tad thin, it's an easy drinker at 7% ABV. Overall, this is a fun Porter to drink which isn't surprising given the adventuresome nature of both Carton and Bolero Snort.
