There is no end to what my dad taught me in the kitchen as a child, and every Carton beer is seeded in a concept I germinated after he planted it. Larry is the most direct translation of one of those memories. Making breakfast for the family one morning we cut an under-ripe cantaloupe that was just too flat and boring to satisfy dad. He diced it rather than slicing, squeezed a lemon and sprinkled some salt. It wasn't the sweet fruit it should have been, but it was zippy and bright, and its firm texture bettered the dish. It was exciting, new, and different to my young perspective. Drink Larry because a thousand mile journey off the beaten craft starts with those first steps.

On tap at Asbury Alehouse
Well I was heading down to Asbury Park with my friends and almost talked them into stopping at Carton but did not. Luckily, they have this fun sounding beer from Carton at this restaurant. I had another one in this series last time with charred watermelon and mint, but this one with salted cantaloupe sounds really interesting. Let’s get into it
Pours a clear gold with 2 fingers of white head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is gentle, but I’ve never had this much cantaloupe in a beer before. I’m picking up on aromas of cantaloupe, orange jello, jammy raspberry, crackery malt, lemon zest, and light grass
It’s pretty much most of the same in taste, just a bit more tart. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting orange juice, overripe cantaloupe, lemon juice, bready malt, and tart raspberry. The swallow brings notes of lemon juice, crackery malt, overripe cantaloupe, tart raspberry, orange jello, light pineapple, and a touch of grass
A light body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes mostly dry and tart
This is a fun and super refreshing beer. A great summer sipper

Another great sour from Carton. Great story on the can also. As with the other beers in this series that I've tried the flavors are subtle and nuanced, which for me is almost always the better approach. Do I taste cantaloupe? Not sure. Does it remind me of summer and drink perfectly at a BBQ on a hot day? Absolutely. I love these sours from Carton. This and Monkey Chased the Weasel are my favorites. yb

As the fruit flavors continue to impede the sour ale styles, Carton brewers look to the summertime orchard variety and childhood thoughts of picnics and family outings for a familiar taste to come along with the revival of the German-styled Berlinerweiss.
Surprisingly bright and chrome in color, the fluffy ivory cap that sits upon the beer expels a host of light colored fruit, citrus, wine and wheat along with a brisk and briny scent of the sea. A gentle sweetness rolls onto the early palate with sourdough, wafer and agave with a grain-centric upstart.
As the flavors develop, the rise of sourness brings a medium measure of white wine, English cider, green apple, lime, gooseberry and lemon along with the juicy taste of cantaloup and its nuanced peach and mango attributes. As the sourness washes the late palate, the mild salinity offers a light mineral zip and rounded salinity that never dominates the taste.
Medium bodied yet somewhat fuller for Berlinerweiss, the salt and melon adds fuller and juicier taste that seems to also translate to texture to keep the ale more aligned with Gose than the Berliner's version. A brief echo of burlap and leaf comes soon after a quick finish of tart and thirst quenching sourness.
