Poured from 25 oz. bottle into a seidel glass. It pours a slightly cloudy, bright golden straw color with lots of effervescent bubbles and a creamy, milk-white cap and lacing. Its nose is quite fragrant with spicy hop notes accompanying the grain and malt. It's highly flavorful with dry barley, bready malt, sweet corn, white wine, yeasty, floral, earthy, grassy, herbal, strong spice notes, and a moderate hoppy bitterness. I'm not very familiar with Hallertauer hops but they add a very appealing spiciness. It has a slightly Belgian farmhouse character. There is nothing bland about the taste - the flavors truly compliment each other. It has a bit of everything in the flavor. The mouth feel is crisp and lite with lively carbonation, and it's an easy drinker at 5.9% ABV. Overall, this is a classic Carton project: using ingredients available in New Jersey in the eighteenth century to produce a delicious Pilsener. I appreciate the nod to history. What a fun beer to drink on a hot summer's day!

500 mL bottle, undated but from June 2020, poured into Carton Dubvariant glass.

I grew up just a few miles from Monmouth Battleground and have read practically every book written about it. Clinton's army marched right by and over our (former, grrr) land to get there. Augie clearly made this beer for me.

L: Big white foamy head upon pour. Retention is very good, not unlike what Washington did for the Continental Army. Lacing is as spotty as Lee's claim Washington was a poor leader. Beer is a pale straw and as clear as Washington's order to attack.

S: Bready, nice and fresh unlike the hardtack the troops had to eat. Earthy, like the hallowed ground of Monmouth Court House. Yeasty, like...you got me here.

T: Grassy, peppery, a bit of honey (you can get local honey at Battleview Orchards or Wemrock Orchards, BTW). Yeasty and earthy. A bit of lemon with a dry finish.

F: Light bodied, moderately carbonated. Very well conceived and constructed and flavors are in good balance. Crisp, dry finish, like a Federalist Paper.

O: No one but Augie Carton can match Lafayette's practical, tactical brilliance. Also I love seeing Carton doing more lagers as a nice departure from hoppy IPAs.

2d Review. If Hamilton has not yet woken your views of people's pre-Constitution appetites, perhaps this ancient recipe Keller will. Naturally, it's brewed of fresh Jersey origins that could have been produced in 1776. Courtesy of Carton, my hometown brewer.
a) As with recent Carton beers, mounts a creamy white lasting, lacing head over over a golden slight haxed body with loosely coordinated champagne like bubbles.
s) Honey, orchard, earthy, yeast. Bright Germanic hops.
t) Honey dominates but suitably tempered by the lemon zest, peppery, clean, grassy hops. Great food or afternoon beer, great conversation beer. A shame to enjoy by oneself unless over a really great meal, book, idea sketch, photo edit, or contemplation.
f) Peppery and yeasty, clean, fresh, wine like.
o) Another great reflection of our terroire, a cradle of American rights and independence.

500 mL undated bottle courtesy of @TheGent poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 5.9% ABV. The beer pours hefe-hazy in a soft pale yellow with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. Minimal spotty lacing. The aroma is mild with rustic grain and a little yeast. The taste is tart, which is a shock at first, but shouldn't be. Soft, rustic, spicy grain starts to work through once the tartness subsides. There is a bit of earthiness in the mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with medium plus carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, good. This beer really highlights the use of heirloom grain and I really enjoy such beers.
