It’s usually better to unify rather than divide. Wedge Issue is a series of double IPA’s where we take two hops that divide opinion around the brewery and put them together in equal amounts to make the whole greater than the sum of the parts. For Wedge Issue Motueka l Waimea, we added significant amounts of Motueka and Waimea hops as both pellets and a custom distillate to a grain bill consisting of pilsner, wheat, and oats fermented with New England yeast. Look for the meeting of Motueka’s papaya and lime profile to be defined by Waimea’s pulpy orange and cedar notes in a plush pale. Drink Wedge Issue and believe in a day when arguments end in delight.

Thank you TheGent for this
16 oz can, dated 7/14/20, poured into a teku
A- A hazy golden orange with a small white head.
S- Citrus, melons, some tropical fruits, earthy, cedar, touch of wheat.
T- Citrus, papaya, some melons, cedar, earthy, hint of wet grass, touch of wheat, some pine.
M- Smooth, creamy, medium body.
O- This is a really interesting hop combo done well. I could see the hops being a little hit and miss for some but it’s working for me.

Canned on 7/14/2020. Poured into a Carton IPA glass. It pours a murky, pastel, dirty yellow color with a thin, creamy, milk-white head and lacing. It's smell is highly floral, with notes of peach, nectarine, lemon and lime, as well as some sweeter tropical fruits. The taste opens with a burst of citrus: lemon, lime, grapefruit, and tangerine, as well as sweeter tropical fruit and resinous pine. As the glass warms a bit there is increasing sweetness from the oats and wheat in the grist. The flavors blend very well and result in a flavorful and refreshing ale. There is a nice burst of peppery spice and hop bitterness at the finish. This ale is medium-bodied and pleasantly carbonated and the 8.2% ABV gives it a nice pop. This is a delightful summertime beer and my favorite of Carton's "Wedge" series. It's fine for casual drinking but would pair well with grilled sausage or a bacon cheeseburger.

1st Review for Carton Wedge Motueka/Waimea. My 1972nd. Beer sharing / tasting has been a lovely hobby better than wine collecting/ sharing.
a) Pours thick, pulpy like pear nectar of childhood, springs a 1 finger head that fades and laces dots.
s) Fresh at 7 days old, sends floral greenhouse signals that would make a bee line, flowers, pine, citrus blossom, rind, perfume, cedar, less tropical.
t/f) Follows aroma. Positively chewy on that oat flake base. Sweeter and more floral that my pref, but interesting, odd, and original. More flowers and nectar than anything else.
o) Lovely and as different, as provocative, as its wedge siblings, or as the Carton brothers. Drink Wedge fresh, or your local brewer fresh and buy direct when you can. July 25, 2020
