In a perfect world, each town would have access to a fresh, straightforward lager beer. For the bar where Carton's first ever keg was sold, we built around a typically bready helles malt bill fermented with classic yeasts, and then made it unique for the town of our friend Joe Boyle by focusing on a dry-hopping round of Nelson Sauvin, his favorite ingredient, which adds vibrant wine/gooseberry notes to the defining bitterness and pleasant citric spice of Opal hops in the base recipe. Drink JOE B. TOWN because the place it all went down for the first time will always be significant to the heart.

Pours clean and clear with a small, white head. No lacing to mention. Nose is very much like all helles, lagers. Taste is initially a malt forward that gives way to the gooseberry sweetness. Dry finish for an easy drinking beer.

When the classics need an update, Carton teams up with a local pup paritioner to give the crushable German Helles an American upgrade by dry hopping with Nelson Sauvin hops.
Bright straw and teeming with streaming bubbles, the beer's nearly champagne appearance leaves it with a light and airy crown. Its light aromatics seem to glow with the character of white lemon, straw and a kiss of white wine. Crisp, light and brisk on the tongue, the beer opens up with a mild mannered wafer maltiness with soft cereal sweetness throughout.
As the grail profile begins to lighten immediately, a quick middle palate moves from the fruitiness of lemon, apple and pear to lemongrass, verbena and dry hay in a hurry. Washing all thirst from the palate with ease, the late taste is a more spicy type of bitterness with a fresh grassiness, green herb and straw-like tendency to show in a well mannered hop balance.
Finishing as crisp, clean and refreshing as it started, the beer is effortless on the palate while finishing with a quick aftertaste of hay and grain. Its a perfect beer to drink while you're figuring out what you're drinking.

Canned on 8/3/2020. Poured into a pint glass. It pours a slightly hazy, grassy golden color with a generous, bright white, foamy head and abundant soapy lacing. It has a fragrant nose featuring lemon peel, cereal grain, lightly toasted bread, and whiffs of banana and white wine. The taste opens a touch of sweet grain but quickly becomes dry and earthy with notes of darker toast and spice and pepper from the Opal hops. It has a rich, full flavor for the style. At the finish you can detect the Nelson Sauvin influence in the hint of white wine. As expected, it's dry and crisp with a pleasant level of carbonation and drinks very easily at 4.9% ABV. Overall, Joe B. Town is highly flavorful and satisfying for its low ABV. Carton is adept at brewing lagers and it shows in this excellent beer. It would pair nicely with a lobster roll or any other sweet seafood.
