Ceres “Hempiness”
50cl can coded “100523 B 0553” and sampled on 27 November 2022
2,50€ @ COOP, Via Giustiniani 18b, Roma, IT
The can reads “IMPORTED FROM DENMARK” and lists the city of Faxe. It has 26 IBUS, a color of 9 EBC (deep golden), and the aroma of hemp from hemp seed extract but it does not contain any THC or CBD. I don’t think it smells like hemp although there is an herbal side to it, and perhaps that's because it has a bit of fruitiness that’s like lime. The lime and “hemp” carry through to the flavor and it’s very weird. I can imagine that you might get used to it and love it but it’s very odd at first. There’s some malt flavor to it so it’s not like it doesn’t taste anything like beer but beer was certainly not the first impression it gave me. It uses hop extract along with the hemp seed extract but I’m not really finding any clear hop character, just some herbal notes that might as well be from the “hemp”. All in all it’s an unusual beer that’s clearly designed to jump on the current weed trend that’s sweeping through Europe. The odd thing about that is, given what’s wafting about all over the city streets, there’s no shortage of the real thing.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
