Copenhagen 23/4 2015. 50 cl can from Fakta, Frederiksborgvej, Kbh. NV. Drawing of a grumpy viking on the label.

Pours brown with a red hue and a mid-sized pinkish head. Probably from the fruit juice. Head settles to a thin layer of foam fading fairly quickly. No lacing o speak of.

Aroma is rather sweet and malty. Pale sweet malts and metallic alcohol. Hint of raspberries.

Medium strong carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is also sweet and a little lemonadelike. Quite watery despite holding an ABV of 6,5 %.

A red beer with fruit juice and pink head seems a bit girlish for a beer inspired by the brutal vikings. But too much lemonade for my taste in any case.

Bottle 0.33L.
Clear copper body with an average, frothy, white head, mostly diminishing with some lacing, though; high density of small bubbles.
Moderate malty (caramel) aroma with notes of fruits.
Moderate-to-heavy sweet, light bitter and light acidic flavour; long-lasting sweet finish.
Light-to-medium body with watery texture; average carbonation.
Not exciting; more watery than expected.

April 2013: 330 ml nearly clear (= very pale brown) bottle, kindly shared by abemorsten. ABV is 6.5%. Reddish brown colour, some chill haze. Low carbonation, hardly any head. Strong aroma of dark dried fruits (incl. prunes and raisins), old sherry and oak. Only the slightest carbonation in the mouth. The flavour has notes of prune juice and some oak, but is not too sweet. Minimal hops, bland finish. At least this is an unusual beer ...

Ceres Brewery "RED ERIK"
33 cl. clear glass bottle, "Best Before 190716"

For being a beer/malternative made with corn in the grist, and sugar syrup and fruit juice in the bottle it's not bad. I should probably also point out that hops are the last ingredient on the label, meaning there are very few there, and they're probably only used to meet the requirements of being a "beer". It looks a little odd with its reddish tint and pink head, but it smells and tastes fine. It's also 6.5% ABV, which is probably a big selling point for many, and come to think of it, the unusual coloring probably is as well, just not for me. It was expensive so I won't be having it again, but after walking for 3 hours on a hot day it might have actually been just what I needed. It's a little bit sweet, a little bit tart, and a little bit fruity - quite refreshing!

330ml bottle poured into tulip 16/9/12

A a ruby brown body with a light pinkish foam that falls quickly and leave two rings of lace

S skunked chemicals with a little sour fruit, cherry perhaps, almost like a jolly rancher but its not very nice in this department

T quite sweet with some fake fruit and a off tasting solvent thing going for it, at least the booze is somewhat well hidden but not all that enjoyable overall

M medium bodied with decent carbonation, slightly sticky and a crappy sour fruit aftertaste

O not god awful but far from good, the off chemical taste is hard too avoid, tastes like a cheaply made fruit beer but they used fake fruit and malt liquor

I didn't expect much and I wasn't disappointed, don't expect much from this one

A - slightly hazy and very red, thumb of pink head retained respectably with a touch of lacing
S - very grainy, adjunct, metallic, with a bit of a cook veggie aroma
T - similar to the nose with some caramel maltiness as well, its strangely sweet & sour, but mostly odd
M - medium to light and a little on the flat side, has a bit of a metallic feel
O - not sure if the Fruit/Vegetable Beer classification is correct but it definitely has some of that not so appealing cooked veggie flavour, not horrible but not something I would drink again unless in a pinch
