On tap:
The beer pours a bit on the dark side, though fairly decent in clarity for a pale ale, but has a nice amount of sustaining head (even though my pour was easy and to the brim). Lacing is fairly significant, and foamy head is constantly re supplied from the pour.
Nose is a lightly tart, barrel obvious, but bourbon notes fade to a more wine-barrel over some time. Truthfully the barrel dominates the smell, which is good or bad depending on your taste.
The taste follows the nose, barrel dominating (and not in a bad way). Woody, some bourbon notes, a hint of red wine; if I were to go deeper, there's a lemon-lime flavor in the background. The carbonation is at a decently non-invasive level. Body is medium. Hops seem to be non-existent.
This beer has me torn. I wish I had the non-BA version of it to compare. It's ABV is low, and it's way to green to compare to Backwoods Bastard, but it's leaning towards that flavor. To be sure, it's a far cry from said beer, but it's weak resemblance (and potential I am perceiving) is what has me torn. Try for yourself.
