Pint sized bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.
Zeb's is a hazy golden copper color with thin white head. It settles quickly to a skim layer.
Aroma is almost as malty as it is hoppy. Not particularly fresh or exciting.
Flavor is less of a surprise after that aroma but still a disappointment. Malty and sweet with caramel and orchard fruits. Hops definitely add bitterness but there isn't that hop flavor or citrus character I was expecting.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and nicely carbonated. Plenty bitter.
Overall certainly drinks more like a barley wine to me. Doesn't have that fresh hop character that is the trademark of the DIPA. That said, not a bad beer, just not to style.

BOTTLE: 1 pint .9 fl oz. Brown glass. Branded pry-off cap. Great classy-looking label design. Bottled 4/6/15.
Reviewed live as an imperial IPA per the label (which calls it a double IPA). Served cold into a conical pint glass at high altitude in Castle Rock, CO. Expectations are high.
9% ABV.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: About 4 inches wide. White in colour. Foamy. Frothy and coating. Retention is excellent - round 7-8 minutes. Leaves spotty inconsistent lacing as it recedes.
BODY: Clear copper of nice vibrance. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visibe. Clean, with great clarity.
It's a nice appearance for an imperial IPA, but it isn't unique or special.
AROMA: Caramalt, pale malts, grassy & herbal hops, and floral notes. It's on the sweeter maltier side for an imperial IPA, but it suggests a generally pleasing brew.
Aromatic intensity is well below average.
No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Shockingly sweet and candied, with a coating feel and an obnoxious cloying taste. Hop profile is underwhelming, with no resins, citrus, pine, etc. Just a generic floral & herbal hop character that gets swallowed up by the malty sweetness. Balance is horrid; this is terribly put together. Not gestalt at all. Shallow, clashing, and completely off the mark.
The texture isn't any better than the taste, featuring obnoxious scratchiness. Has a dragging dry parching presence on the palate. Overcarbonated. Full-bodied.
There's no harmony of texture and taste. What were they thinking with this one?
OVERALL: Difficult to drink given its low quality. A swing and a huge miss from Bull & Bush. I'd recommend avoiding this one, lads. One of the worst imperial IPAs in recent memory.

Honey-hued copper color; thick, white, foamy head. Dank, wet grass, malty nose; pine resin. Very bitter, biting flavors; some caramel malt notes. Medium body; wet; nice combination of residual sugars and dry hop and alcohol warmth.
Heavy on the hop bitterness with a light malt base. It's a tongue-ripper but lacks balance and depth with the flavors. Rather weak with the aroma, too. Worth trying if you're into the heavy-handed, high IBUs for your ales. Not bad but nothing special...

Strong malt base. Piney hop bite. Bitter middle with a softer finish. I'd say more English IPA style.

Thanks Nick!
Poured an orangeish, honey, semi-clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki white, frothy head. A few bubble streams coming up from the bottom, reminding me of shooting starts. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Not a lot in the nose, surprisingly. Got lemon drops, Citra, floral, light tropical (fruit passion?), light grapefruit, faint peach and some sweetened iced tea late. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a bit like the nose, but more flavor. Got those lemon drops, honey, fruit passion, bitter mango rind, Citra, boozy Cascade, floral, light red grapefruit, caramel, rye and lemon iced tea. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. Alcohol feels about right on at 9 percent. (Feel - 3.75)
This was a pretty good IIPA. Not great, but good. Would definitely have it again. (Overall - 3.75)
