I love it that so many uptight beer geeks get their panties in a knot about Slippery Pig. It works as a wonderful filter to keep out the IPA-addled types and leave more of Dave Lambert's wonderful, quirky beers for the rest of us. No, beer purists and the self-appointed beer "connoisseurs" won't like Bitter Bunny. You have to have a very outside-the-box attitude to even approach Slippery Pig but Bunny is just fundamentally different from "normal" CDAs. It's leaner and less enslaved to the Hops Mania that infects so much of Northwest brewing. Its flavors run to oddball accents like nettle and wild vegetation and sour apples and herbs but the backbone of graham crackers, dark-roast malts, caramel, coffee, and chocolate is firmly in place and the rustic appeal of all the Slippery Pig ales gives it a Hand-Made charm that the less hide-bound among us find compelling. All of Dave's ales carry a down-home intensity and earthy character and that offends some folks, mostly those who are easily offended...but the mere fact of the entire brewery NOT being about the IBU Arms Race or Brit Mania is such a refreshing break from the norm that it's like a palate cleanser for any devoted NW beer freak. This is a great little bottle of CDA...unless your butt is too puckered to enjoy it.
