Served on cask in a shaker pint glass at the brewery tap room.
It's a tradition for trivia nights here at Tighthead: try the cask beer first. In this case, it's a coconut-laden version of the Boxcar Porter. It pours a midnight sienna topped by a short finger or so of light golden-tan foam. The nose comprises mild roasted malts, sweet milk chocolate, a hint of coconut shavings, and a touch of graham cracker. The taste initially follows suit, but instead of some shavings from the inside of a coconut, there is instead a vague sense of charred coconut husk or shell, which takes me out of this beer's corner, sadly. Things just do not meld the way they could have. The body is a lithe medium, with a light carbonation and a subsequently smooth feel. Overall, this variant just didn't do it for me. It's nothing I would call "bad", just a recipe I won't be looking forward to trying ever again.
