A German Dark Lager with roasted barley to give it a nice coffee aroma. This beer is made with traditional Noble hops and Bavarian lager yeast that makes it a very smooth drinking lager.

Served in a 5oz taster glass at Tighthead 7/21/12.
A: Served almost completely black...just a slight black cherry colored hue towards the edges. 1/2 finger of light brown foam stuck around for a bit and left a little lace behind.
S: Heavy roast on the nose with bits of coffee, dark chocolate, and brown bread toast.
T: Deeply roasted malt flavors run wild. Cocoa, medium roast coffee, and bread again.
M: A little on the light side which I feel is pretty typical for the style. Nice dry-roast prickle that helps emphasize the rich roasty flavors.
O: Quite nice. I tend to forget about this style and remember how much I like them after the first sip. Nice job.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the TH tap room.
As much as I like seeing Spaceballs references abounding, this is the second schwarzbier I've had recently with such a reference in its name. C'mon, guys, can't we get a touch more creative here? Oh, well, anyway, this stuff pours a dark sienna topped by a finger of oatmeal-beige foam. The nose comprises mild roasted malts, light cocoa powder, light coffee, and a smidge of dark greens. The taste brings in more of the same, though the roast seems darker now. Hell, works for me! The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a very nice schwarz, something nice and roasty to belly up to the bar with here in Mundelein. Good times.
