Maibock was brewed seasonally to welcome in the German beer garden season. Made with European Pilsner and Munich malt, hallertauer hops and Bavarian lager yeast, this is a refreshing malty beer with a crisp finish. Mundelein, once called Mechanics Grove for the German craftsman who settled in this area inspired it’s name... Prost!

Foggy looking pale orange pour, small heads fades quickly. Bready flavors and aroma, some hops. Nice beer.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden burgundy color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of toasted caramel, roasted malt, toffee and some pine. Nice toasted bread taste with roasted malt and a mild bitterness.

A little old for the season, but the first I'd seen of it.

16 oz. can, canned on 3/11/21, 6.7 ABV on this can. Poured into my tall Becher.

L -- Lightly hazy (no mention of can conditioning), bright gold with a firm, but quick settling, off-white head.

S -- Yeasty bread, light herbal hops, peppery alcohol -- in that order. Light citrus character back.

T -- Sweetish, bready malts with lightly herbal, bitter hops in balance. Finish and aftertaste have hottish, peppery alcohol and some of the accompanying phenols, but not terribly distracting.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light-medium body.

O -- A little drier and higher in attenuation than most Maibocks, but the sweet breadiness hits some good notes for style. I'll look for this one again next year.

From a 160z can, the beer pours a dark golden orange-yellow with a decent amount of white head that retraeats to a thick circle around the edge of the glass with some foam drifting around the center. Smell is mostly hoppy and spicy, but it also has honey and malt elements. Flavor is rich with a bit a of alcohol heat to it. I taste a somewhat juicy flavor with some honey, plenty of exotic malt flavor, and some sweetness followed by a moderate bitterness at the close. The hops leave a slightly unpleasant aftertaste. Mouthfeel is bubbly at first, but becomes slick, smooth and a little syrupy at the end.

Good beer, might buy again.

this is awesome beer, really one of the better american made examples of this style that i have had, maybe ever. the can art is awesome, and the pour from it is really lively, giving rise to several inches of airy white head, a little bit of sediment getting caught up in it once i reach the very bottom, but a good looking glass of beer with a very pale rust shade to it. aroma is almost refreshing to me right away, a kiss of honey, the classic german lager yeast, and a neat fruitiness that reminds me of clementine, uncommon for the style, maybe from the hops, but less of the grassy noble thing than i am used to here and kind of more modern. the yeast really drives the flavor for me, bready but fresh, awesome with the lightly sweet malt, which is less german in this sense than i am used to i guess, maybe just fresher, not as much of the mineral and water profile character that these often have, replaced here by a floral element in the yeast and a baked note to the grain. its really balanced and delicious, and the fruity hop thing at the end makes this distinctive enough to pick out from a crowd, although it is still very much to style. i think they did an awesome job with this, each sip is kind of new to my palate, and the whole thing drinks really smooth and easy. great beer, killer take on a style that could always use a breath of life. perfect for spring!

Pours a hazy, cloudy, dark golden color. Remarkably effervescent in spite of being so hazy. Thinnish white head dissipates steadily leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer.

Aroma has notes of grain, malts, bit skunky with some spicy herbal hop notes. It does smell rather off - in an old, past its prime way.

Taste has notes of grain, light malts, bitter spicy hops and some sweetness. There is also a definite butter like taste to the beer. Overall its not a great flavor profile at all and the butter notes, while subtle, are definitely a fault.

Feel is light to medium bodied. Very gentle carbonation. Bitter finish lingers in the throat.

Overall, the butter notes in the flavor is too much to overlook here. Even without that its too hoppy, and the malts are lacking. Pass.

Draft: Poured a honey color bock with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal notes with light grainy notes is pleasant enough. Taste is a mix of cereal with light grainy feature with some residual sugar notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Light butter notes were noticeable but nothing too strong. Quite enjoyable for the style.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the TH tap room.

Being May, it is indeed maibock season, so it's nice to see some o' my local breweries putting out some tasty bock-ness. This piece of evidence pours a clear honey-amber topped by a finger of dirty white foam. The nose comprises wheat, very light honey, and light grass. Nice and subdued here. The taste holds notes of wheat, honey, light orange rind, grass, light flowers, and a touch of dry biscuit. The body is a light medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a dryly creamy feel. Overall, an enjoyable li'l maibock. Good times.
