This Double Oatmeal Stout was our first attempt at a stout and the perfect beer to age in our bourbon barrels. Without the barrels, this base beer is a smooth, creamy, drinkable Oatmeal Stout. Rolled oats, traditional roast and chocolate malt give this strong ale a malty backbone to balance the East Kent Golding hops. I think the name is obvious, yet deep and thoughtful!

Had on tap at the taproom. Served in a 10 oz chalice/goblet.
A: Pours a dark black color with cherry wood edges. A creamy tan head forms on the pour and dissipates to a bubbly ring.
S: Slight roast with dried oats. Minimal chocolate. Nothing that jumps out at me.
T: More of the same. Roasted malts with more of a dried oatmeal flavor. Some chocolate sweetness with a minimal hoppy backing. Weird residual metallic flavors come out initially, but as it warms those flavors start to go away.
M: Medium to thin bodied with a nice carbonation level.
O: For a double oatmeal I was expecting more of body to the beer and and much more developed flavors. Unfortunately this was a miss for me. If the beer is this thin normally I don't think it can stand up to the bourbon barrels it's currently sitting in, but hopefully I what I got was something towards the bottom of the keg.

Been awaiting this stout since Billy told me about it a few weeks ago. It pours a straight obsidian topped by a finger of light brown foam. The nose comprises dark chocolate syrup, roasted malts, molasses, and light coffee. The taste brings in more of the same; the roast comes through darker, bitterer at first, but it mellows out over time. A hint of pure vanilla bean finds its way in there as well. The body is a heft-aspired medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a kinda chewy feel, and a fairly dry finish. Overall, a damn solid double oatmeal stout, a welcome addition to the Tighthead portfolio.

The taste brings in more of the same; the roast comes through darker, bitterer at first, but it mellows out over time. A hint of pure vanilla bean finds its way in there as well. The body is a heft-aspired medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a kinda chewy feel, and a fairly dry finish. Overall, a damn solid double oatmeal stout, a welcome addition to the Tighthead portfolio.

A: Served just shy of pitch black. A tiny hint of coppery red at the bottom when held to the light. Capped with 1/2 a finger of creamy, light brown foam. Good stickiness and retention.
S: Toasty grain and bitter chocolate straight from the tap. As it warmed, toasted marshmallow, german chocolate cake, and a hint of dark fruit came out.
T: See above. Loads of roast and toast. Becomes gradually more on the chocolate-y side of things as it warms. Lactic marshmallow and a hint of fig newton when warmed.
M: Smooth and silky. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Full and coating. Excellent/
O: An excellent first attempt at the style. Would've liked to have another of these but was totally full by the end of the glass. Very filling. Can't wait to try the version they have resting in Bourbon Barrels right now...
