Deep black color with a decent amout of tan head.
It has nice notes of vanilla and oak with light roasted malt. The barel aging is evident I the nose.
The stout is comprised of roast, borderline char, and bakers chocolate. The. The booze kicks in. It's a little overdone. Typical bourbon notes, but boozy as hell. Especially for 8%. It drinks more like 12%.
Mouthfeel was thin which contributed to the boozy feel. There wasn't enough body to stand up to it.
Overall, it was decent and a respectable first attempt (from what I understand) at the barrel aging process.

Served in a snifter at Tighthead 3/16/13.
A: Served an inky, ashy, black with 1 full finger of sticky and creamy foam on top. Retention was great with a thin skim layer hanging around 'till the bitter end.
S: Light bourbon notes mixed with healthy roasted grain, dark chocolate, vanilla/caramel, and chocolate chip bread pudding.
T: See above for reference. Very balanced flavors of bourbon, roast, and chocolate.
M: Served too cold for my liking so it was a tad too thin at first. I let it sit on the bar for a good 20 minutes and it thickened up considerably.
O: I'd been hoping to try this one for a while and was happy that it was on when I stopped by. Very nice 1st time BA from these guys. Hopefully shades of things to come from them.

Served in a snifter at the tap room.
But is it still technically "batch 42" at this point? Different batch number? Ah, screw it, who cares? This stuff pours a straight obsidian topped by a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises whiskey, light booze, oak, light roasted malts, light toasted oats, and vanilla. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a nice little hint of cocoa for the sake of it. The booziness evident in the smell is much less pronounced on the tongue. The body is a hefty medium, with a rather light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda chewy feel. Overall, a very nice barrel-aged stout, something that gives me high hopes for future barreled endeavors from our boys in Mundelein.
