Decent head production but poor retention. Body appears to be a touch murky.
Nose is absolutely swimming in sweet cherry notes - even with more than a year of age on it. It's quite lovely, even if it tends to drown out the notes of chocolate, molasses, and coffee. Then again, I love cherries.
Body is very thin considering the concept of a chocolate covered cherry stout - not surprising for the modest ABV, but perhaps avoiding imperial territory was a poor choice for executing the concept. It's simply too watery and a touch cola-like, and consequently it loses the richness it so badly needs.
Flavor profile is tasty, albeit lacking in impact as mentioned. Semi-sweet cherries, dark powdery chocolate, light toast, molasses, cream, red grape, raspberry, prune, espresso, and caramel. For all the flavor the malt base brings to bear, again, it has very little impact.
If you want the flavor profile of the concept in an extremely accessible format, this is a very solid choice. If you're looking for something anywhere near as decadent as the namesake, this one seriously misses the mark.

16 oz can from Michigan with a canning date of 9 November 2021 stamped on the bottom of the can.
Appearance. Clear, dark, ruby-brown body with a decent beige head. There's some sediment that resembles, and may be, cocoa powder.
Aroma. Chocolate covered cherries indeed, and without the note of artificial cherry usually found in boxed chocolate covered cherries.
Mouthfeel. Creamy smooth of, perhaps a touch under carbonated.
Flavor. There's enough hops in this to hold the sweetness down to lightly sweet and not so much to bring on the unwanted grapefruit peel note that too often appears in other chocolate cherry stouts.

Pours a dark brown with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma of chocolate and cherry. Tastes of chocolate and cherry. Very sweet but thin.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 1/8/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, brownie batter, almond, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of raisin, fig, coffee, smoke, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of cherries, chocolate, lactose, dark/roast/bready malts, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, brownie batter, almond, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of raisin, fig, coffee, smoke, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/grassy hop, and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, brownie batter, almond, toasted dark/brown bread, light coffee/smoke, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, chocolate, lactose, dark/roast/bready malts, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited milk/sweet stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, chocolate, lactose, dark/roast/bready malts, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the minimally bitter/drying finish; amazingly soft feel. Awesome balance of authentic juicy cherries, chocolate, lactose, and rich malt complexity; with just enough earthy hops to balance sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Reminds me of ST Cherry Cordial; but a lot less intense on the cherries, and bigger on the fudge/brownie flavors.
