I found this to be a very refreshing and quite pleasant Double IPA. The fruity and floral scents are excellent. The bitterness in the aftertaste was a bit of an issue, but not uncharacteristic of the style. I would buy again, or visit the taproom if I was in the San Diego/Carlsbad area

16oz can - made with hops from 'coastal regions', which could be from a lot of different places, I'm just sayin'.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves a bit of random generic streaky lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of dank pine resin, bready and grainy caramel malt, muddled tropical fruity notes, further domestic citrus rind, a bit of buttery crackers (like freshly opened Ritz), and further leafy, weedy, and musky floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee thing, mixed and matched wet forest floor detritus, some guava, pineapple, and passionfruit exotic esters, and more weedy, herbal, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly restrained in its innocuous frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, the acrid hops making a minor dent in the proceedings here. It finishes off-dry, the malt holding on for dear life, while the citrus and pine acerbities act like it's 2007, or something (not that I'm complaining).

Overall - this is an appreciable enough version of the style that first pulled me into the world of IPAs a decade or so ago - piney, citrusy, boozy, and maybe kinda dank, but I wasn't really cognizant of that concept at the time (maybe I was, but it would have only been via my pot-smoking friends). At any rate, a genial, and easy-drinking tipple, the 17-proof alcohol measure barely noticeable.

I picked up a bomber of this DIPA from Hi Times on 03/10/2017. No bottled date. 8.5% APV. The purple, black and white label blends almost seamlessly with the brown glass bottle. Latitude 33 Brewing hails from Vista, CA. This DIPA uses Motueka, Nelson, Citra and Mosaic hops. It's a very good hop combo.

Ocean Grown DIPA pours a hazy amber with moderate carbonation. 2 fingers of ecru foam. Nice lacing.

The smell is citrus, tropical fruits and dankness. The taste starts starts with citrus and tropical fruits, followed by a strong hop bitterness, complimented by a mild/moderate malt backbone. The alcohol warms the mixture without distracting from the hop complexity or pronounced bitterness. The strong hop bitterness also lingers nicely afterward.

Contrary to the 3 previous reviewers, I really liked this DIPA -- it's a very good, thirst-quenching DIPA with roots firmly planted in West Coast DIPA tradition. Perhaps Latitude 33 Brewing has adjusted its brewing recipe since 2016. Whatever the case may be, I'll definitely add Ocean Grown DIPA to my weekly rotation of daily DIPAs. Kudos to Latitude 33 Brewing!

Cloudy amber brew with modest foaming in the Piraat tulip. Intense fruity nose of mango and peach. Hot with alcohol. Grilled peach taste and really sugary. Bitterness comes on immediately. No way would I call this subdued. It's quite raw.

Malty and sweet with an astringent finish. Aftertaste is quite woody and bitter. With all the delicious fruity DIPAs around this one is just not as drinkable. But a lovely nose. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Market.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Figueroa Mountain shaker pint glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $5.99
Purchased: June 25, 2016
Consumed: June 25, 2016
Misc.: No BOD on bottle

Latitude 33 has been one of my favorite breweries lately and decided to pick this one up after seeing it on stores once before. Actually grabbed it and read the back of the bottle in line, “Hopped with Motueka, Nelson, Citra and Mosaic…” Of yeah, I am in.

Poured a deep golden yellow color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky, off-white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very good uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Big mix of hops up front, in order Motueka, Mosaic, Nelson, hints of Galaxy, floral and Citra. Also some tropical notes, getting hints of passion fruit, guava and stone fruit. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t as good, but pretty much follows it. Got Motueka, Mosaic, passion fruit, guava, tropical iced tea, floraly perfume, Nelson, hints of Southern Cross and Citra and stone fruit. Bottle reads 8.5 percent ABV, but it tastes like about 5.8 percent. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively-to-average carbonation. Long, tropical finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This was a pretty good double IPA. To me it tastes like a pale ale. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

Purchased and consumed on 4/2/16; 22 oz bottle

Looks pretty nice, copper and clear only minimal lacing. The clarity is quite notable.

Sadly, almost nothing on the nose. So faint, I can't reasonably describe or find any of the 4 hops in this one.

Taste has a little candy like malt up front. There are some interesting plays with some dankness with a slight citrus taste, but it is very subdued flavor and really fails to hold up to the competition. It is pretty easy to drink, smooth.

The price was right for a double IPA. It just doesn't deliver in that company. Tasted more like a ale to me actually. It's an ok beer, give it a try if you like your ipas more subdued.
