Picked up a can of this with a bunch of other stuff on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Didn’t care for the first version of Hop Nectar, giving the Session IPA a 3.69 on April 30, 2020, but I’m a big fan of Latitude 33’s beer. Back of the can read, “Hop Nectar 2 is part of an adventure brew series with rotating experimental hops. Poured a medium-to-dark amber semi-clear color with three fingers of off-white frothy-to-rocky head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled earthy malt, pine, wood, peppery spice, Chinook, Columbus, citrus rind, lime, herbal, Simcoe late, garlic and onion. A tad better out of the can with a little more citrus notes rather than earthy notes. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted at least as good as the nose, maybe better. In order got woody pine, earthy malt, peppery spice, bitter aspirin, herbal, garlic, onion, lime, citrus rind and hints of cat piss. In terms of mentioned hops, Chinook led the way, followed by Simcoe, Columbus and lesser dry Centennial. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Pretty much a West Coast Style IPA to the ‘T.’ Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)
