This straw colored light ale is brewed using light barley malt, flaked barley, flaked corn, and lactose (sugar from milk). Lactose provides a slight sweetness while enhancing the body and mouth feel. The malt sweetness tops the hop flavor, aroma, and bitterness. This ale is brewed with an ale yeast strain and then allowed to lager at cold temperatures creating a clean, crisp, refreshing beer. This is one easy drinking beer, . . . at least That’s What She Said.

That's What She Said: 12 fl. oz. and 5.2% ABV.
Cream Ale from Draught Works in Missoula, MT. I love this style but it's hard to find.
A: Large two finger, off-white head. Golden straw color. Plenty of lacing.
S: Toasted grains. Cereal grains. Some lemon.
T: Very clean up front. Light grains, delicate sweetness, and a little lemon in the middle. Finishes with some light but noticeable hop bitterness. Very well balanced.
M: Pillowy. Chewy. Creamy. Plenty of carbonation. Outstanding.
O: I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. A great cream ale.

a fine cream ale but certainly one of their less exciting brews, a mass appeal yellow beer with just a little bit of character from the grain and the yeast to set it apart from the cheap lagers that still have a strong place in this town, crafty as it is. there must be some corn to this clear golden ale, as i both smell and taste a little sweetness through most of it along with the simple cereal character of the malt, its not overpowering but adds a little length to this and keeps it from feeling too thin. i dont get much from the hops other than a little finishing snappiness, which is needed, but this is agreeable beer for just about all beer drinkers, nobody would describe this as hoppy. the yeast seems slightly european to me or something, not what i always expect to find in these, and its subtle and it works. i have enjoyed seeing so many craft breweries going back to lighter beers in recent years, cream ales, mexican lagers, pils types of all persuasions, i feel like the focus has driven the overall quality up. this is north of average and better than boring, but these guys make some really wonderful beers and i would not put this in their upper echelon, despite being as well crafted as it is.

Pleasantly sweet lactose aroma
Straw color with white foam. Bright clarity.
Clean lactose flavor up front with hop/malt profile quiet in background. Finishes sweet but well balanced.
Medium body, still very drinkable. Medium carbonation
Overall an easy drinking ale which showcases body and a lactose sweetness all coming together in a well balanced light colored beer.

Light gold color with white cap.
Mild sweetish aroma of light grain and something fruit like.
Taste of mild grain, flowery and noticeably sweet, with an underlying peach like fruit presence. A touch of hop bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.
Light-medium texture with balancing carbonation.
Overall it's a mild, fruity, sweet (brewer mentions lactose sugar from milk) brew deriving (I think) more flavor from the ale yeast used than from the grain. It's pleasant, inoffensive and clean. My AAL drinking friends would love it.

Poured from can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is super strong of a grainy smell mixed with some aromas of cream and hay. Along with these aromas comes some musty smells as well as a little bit of a yeast cake aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a very bready taste that has a hint of caramel and a little bit of grain upfront. As the taste advances the graininess and caramel become quite a bit more pronounced and are joined by some other grass and hay. The caramel, grass, and hay really surge at the end, and with some light earthy hop tastes, leave one with a rather lightly hopped, wheat bready taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is chewier and thicker side for a beer of its abv, with a carbonation level that is average. For the tastes the feel is rather well done and makes for a chewy/creamy feel.
Overall – A rather nice easy drinking and flavorful crème ale. This is a style of beer I feel gets a bit under-appreciated, but overall this one is a nice drinker.
