i love this style and was pleased to see it on the menu here, these guys really do a lot of different things dont they. this is lighter colored for the style, just light brown in color really, looks more like a brown ale than a porter, and it feels a little thin to me too, surprised almost at its alcohol content because it drinks pretty mellow overall. some more roastiness in the nose than expected based on color, a coffee note to it, but some middle sweet too, raisin, and maybe some english grain, pretty bready and baked to me. the flavor has good grain depth, roasted barley character without a lot of bitterness at the end, i dont taste much from the lager yeast either, and while i guess it has some crispness at the end, it doesnt really pop in terms of the ferment, its not unique in that regard, and overall i thought maybe this was a little underwhelming, certainly not as robust and nuanced and smooth as i like the style to be. as it sits i get a little licorice and spice out of it, but it still seems like something is missing. i love these guys but this is not a standout of theirs in my opinion...
