coffee ipa, a style i adore, and they did a nice job with this, its somewhat restrained both in terms of the coffee and the hops, so its quite drinkable, definitely a pint beer, not always the case with these, and i think there is some natural synergy between this coffee and these hops specifically, they seem to go exceedingly well together. the beer doesnt take on much color from the coffee, maybe its shine is a little muted by it, but its not stained brown or anything, still looks pretty light in the glass, not quite clear but close, average white head on top. the nose is coffee forward, definitely a cold brewed vibe, sort of concentrated without being too intensely dosed, if that makes sense. deeper roast, a hint of hazelnut and cocoa powder to it, and some clean citrus from the hops, no bitterness double jeopardy here either, more dry hopped than anything it seems, simple malt bill, clean ferment, very appealing. the flavor is just as good, the hops start a little earlier than expected, ever so slightly vegetal but it flatters the coffee, and the little bit of grain sweetness here is nice with the coffee as well, as extremely well balanced. the hops linger with the coffee after the swallow, the burps taste good, and i get some chocolate and nuttiness again from the java. nice beer, i think it could be a little better refined overall, but the flavors are great together. solid effort.
