$15 AUD per pint at Cookie, Melbourne, Australia.
Digs deep into caramel malt and rich toasty amber malt, but lacks the hop pungency and concomitant bitterness to counter the malty sweetness adequately. Muted resin, maybe a kiss of pine is all I get hopwise.
Not a bad amber ale, but hardly top tier in the international arena.

First review I'm doing in a while so here goes....
Appearance - Pours amber / ruby color with foamy head that seems to retain as lace, looked intriguing at first
Aroma - Fresh, has some floral with a touch of malt in the nose
Taste - balanced between the sweet malts and bitter hops, no presence of any overwhelming flavours
Feel - smooth feel with warm touch afterwards
Overall - Interesting appearance, however not a great deal going on beyond this. Absence of any wow factor, however it is ok to drink.

One of my favourite Australian brews. Missing this well balanced brew!

Two Birds Sunset Ale was ok, tried it at a hotel rooftop in Adelaide. It poured a hazy amber with white head that did not leave much lace. The scent was slightly bitter with hints of sweet malt. The taste was a competition between sweet malt and bitter hops. It did come off the pallet somewhat clean. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was ok...nice to try but would go seeking it out.

Pleasant aroma; citrus, floral, somewhat stonefruit hops, touch of pale malt in the background. Medium body, crisp and refreshing, good carbonation. Moderate hop presence on the body; stonefruit, citrus, moderate bitterness. Easy drinking, clean very good.

Bottle: standard crown-top brown 330mL bottle with a decent craft label.
Appearance: a deep auburn-brown on the pour, minimal fine carbonation. One-finger white head pops up and leaves sporadic lace as it drops over about 30 seconds.
Aroma: dominated by a heavy caramel and treacle sweetness, with some hops over the top. Some earth qualities too.
Taste: again the treacle and earth characters come through strongest with a touch of citric hops. The caramel/treacle is almost a bit cloying.
Aftertaste: the hop bitterness comes through a bit stronger, but the earthen character tags along. Nice combination.
Mouth feel: medium body with good moderate carbonation. Works well.
Overall: a good example of the American Red Ale style. Plenty of caramel and treacle sweetness up front with some citric hops. The price of AU$75 a case (2013) isn't unreasonable, particularly as I found this to be a lovely slow-sip ale to have over half-an-hour or so rather than a quick sessional throw-down.

330ml bottle from the Oak Barrel into a Golden Monkey tulip.
Pours a red & light brown colour. Off white foam on top. Good head retention of the one finger of foam.
Nice long lasting smell to this. Plenty of fruit, with pineapple and passionfruit being the main ones. Some earthy malt & caramel as well.
Taste is warped. It seems to lack direction. You think you are in for a nice hoppy amber ale, but instead it is some caramel led muddled tasting ale that is confusing. No fruitiness, no real hop lead to go with.
Decent bitterness from front to back. Nice carbonation level. Would be a good session ale if the taste was decent. Instead the drinkability suffers with the flavour.
Another local beer that could be good. At the moment it isn't. I've heard good things about the keg version. But the bottled version just tastes weird. Sort that out and you have a good beer. To think that a bottleshop was proclaiming this as the hottest new beer if 2012...

On-tap at Harts Pub.
Looked truly red on the pour, on closer inspection it's actually amber, but it's close enough. Head is an off-white fine ring of foam. Some bubbly lacing around the edges. Light body, but it looks smooth and supple. Brilliant clarity. Looks very solid.
Nose is light with clean, fresh citric hops, very bright and zesty. There's a hint of carbonation to it, along with an earthiness light turned clay, and a sweetness like light caramel or carob. Very pleasant.
Taste is light but really nicely balanced. Clean zesty light hops on the front, with a smooth, but leavened sweetness towards the back. At the interface point it gives a pleasant sugared citrus character. Light grain characters, with a tendency towards roast, dance around, but they get smoothed out of existence after their entry. Nice balance: super drinkable.
This is great stuff from Two Birds, much the better of their two regulars so far. Flavoursome but light, and with depth to interest you. I'll certainly be drinking it again. And again.
